I think Shane took a break from his job for the Brock fight, obv. He said before that Dana offered him a large chunk to quit and he turned it down.

He's 35, probably going to have to retire from MMA in a few years, he's going to need the engineering career.

RE: Carwin

I think Carwin's still on his initial UFC contract, which is the reason he only made 40/40 this fight. Leben's higher because Leben has been with them a long time and was able to sign a new deal after he became popular, and he is at least a semi-draw. Akiyama was a pretty big name when the UFC signed him, so that's why he's getting money. Carwin was a nobody when he signed and he's likely still on that contract. When he renegotiates, I'm sure he'll get a boatload of money because he's just headlined a card that did more than a million PPV buys, and even in losing he likely gained a bunch of fans. The casuals are going to know who Carwin is at this point and will want to watch him fight.

theres no way carwin was making 40/40 on his first UFC contract. snooping around the payouts it looks like he got a new deal before the gonzaga fight

edit: actually gonzaga might've been his original deal. the mir fight didn't have his payout released

I would imagine when fighters sing long term contracts with the UFC if they are still in the prospect stage there is room for raises as they progress in their careers. So since Carwin was an unknown prospect when he first signed he was probably getting the typical 6k/6k contract that all the unknowns get but as he began KO'ing everybody and getting more knowned there were slight increases in pay as allowed in his contract eventually getting up to 40k/40k. Of course this is all speculation and he could've signed a new deal before the Gonzaga fight and got at the time what he thought was a fair contract. Of course it was the Gonzaga fight that began turning Carwin into HW elite. Extremely smart business move by the UFC, if true, to negotiate a new deal with Carwin before he has a chance to get his first legitamate big win.

Either way, he's in line for a big pay raise whenever he's up again. He's headlined a top 5 of all time UFC PPV and looked really good even in losing. He'll be getting mid six figures next time I would say, barring any loses in his next couple fights.

I read that he did high altitude training, so he should have been well conditioned. But, this also says he was in camp for over a year. Was it possible that he peaked too early? I don't know how long MMA camps usually are, but in boxing it's usually 8-10 weeks so I was a bit surprised to find that Carwin had a camp that long.

On some FOX business show Dana White was asked how much Lesnar and Carwin will be making and he said something similar to:

"They are both making a lot of money, both will make millions"

At first he attempted to avoid the question but the guy kept insisting. It was obvious that he didn't wanted to disclose how they paid fighters. Carwin making 80k for that fight is a joke, regardless of contract situations.

dream was pretty good.

The Impact FC cards in australia also have a ton of big names. Barnett, Karo, Paul Daley, Ken Shamrock v Pedro Rizzo, etc.

Watching the Showtime Strikeforce card tonight. Do not know any of the fighters, but the fights are real good. Currently watching two women fight at "135" and one of the women easily has 15 lbs of weight, all LBM, on the other.

Even accounting for water weight cutting pre-weigh in it is hard to believe the weigh-ins are legit, cause IMO the fight card always show 2 fighters are the same weight, but often one fighter is often much heavier than the other at fight time, and this is the fighter that normally wins.

The much bigger, stronger woman just power-slammed the other girl and knocked her out, winning the fight. All I can say she is lucky she was fighting a woman much much smaller than her, cause otherwise she probably would have been in more trouble cause the other woman had game, just giving up too much strength.

This has probably already been posted somewhere around here, but it's MMA related and it's summer so I guess it fits here. This is 6th Street in Austin, Texas, presumably last night. The black guy that hits the woman and then gets cleaned up by Roger Huerta is allegedly former Longhorn linebacker Rashad Bobino (I'm really hoping that turns out to be false). The guy who delivers the stomp at the end is not Huerta and should be put in jail for a long time if he's identified. You don't see the actual fight in this video, but you can see how much Huerta ruined this guy in about ten seconds. Hopefully a better video is forthcoming.

http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=t...b-330a87db4f24

Huerta's take:

"I approached the man calmly and said, "Do you know what you just did? You just knocked out this girl."

But Huerta claims the other guy responded, "F*ck you, f*ck these bitches, I'll knock out any f*ckin' bitch that I wanna f*ckin' knock out, I'll knock your f*cking bitch ass out."

Huerta added, "... and as he's saying this, he's taking off his shirt ... and at that point I was like, alright.'"

Huerta insists that he didn't throw the first punch -- and only reacted when the other guy "started swinging at me" ... and we all know what happened next.

"I got the better of him and I left," Huerta said.

The 27-year-old explained, "If that was my mom, if that was my sister, my spouse, anyone ... I would've wanted someone to step in and do something about it."
