Like dana white says...People either like fighting or they don't. His job is to put the best product out there for those who do. And all in all, I think the product is tremendous and is due in large part to how the UFC is run.

He might 'overreact' at times, but I think he wanted to get a point across to the fans via the media that this isn't what his product, UFC, is about and I think that's ****ing awesome.

Re: MMA Spring/SummerThread

BJ will take back his LW belt if he wants to, he either didn't come in at 100%, the heat and humidity affected him significantly, or he took Edgar lightly. Maybe a combination.

Anderson is still P4P #1 and would be the favorite against anyone at 185 or 205 even though he wasn't entertaining tonight (this afternoon, rather).

Some good news is there are some great fights in a week. (Free on CBS too)

King Mo vs Mousasi
Melendez vs Aoki

Gus Johnson will probably be commentating for all those Gus Johnson fans I saw post during March Madness.

BJ's whole, "I can win whenever I want to, but I don't always want to" act. It's not that I disagree that it's true, I'm just sick of everyone making excuses for him. He's had enough "wake up calls" to become a dominant champion. He's still great, but eventually he has to either live up to it, or just be placed where he deserves to be placed historically (below champs like GSP, Hughes, Spider, Fedor, and some others).

I'm rewatching the Silva/Maia fight and the first round isn't that bad. Hell, it was kind of wierd/entertaining. But that's because Silva is so quick and explosive we're all waiting for that knockout move.

Re: MMA Spring/SummerThread

Just thought of the best way to sum up my feelings without being too ranty.

It's not about bloodlust and wanting vicious KO's or how shameful Anderson is or whatever.

People want to see fighters fight to the best of their ability. Is it really too much to ask for someone to say "Do the best you can do and fight the best fight you can"? I don't think that's an unreasonable request of fighters, especially the really high level guys who make a lot of money because people pay to watch them fight. It's about that Anderson didn't fight the fight he was capable of, all because he was bored or petulant or whatever. I feel like "Do the best that you can do" is not too much to ask.

I hate Gus for MMA. ughhhhhhhhhh.

blasphemy around these parts, i know. But he's been horrible imo. The whole Seth Petruzelli = Rocky thing was some of the worst announcing i've heard in a long time. He doesn't seem to know the sport well and doesn't really fit well.

for people wondering what silva was saying in the interview, I was watching the fight with a girl who knows portuguese and she said that the translation was more or less accurate.

I think BJ fought the same way vs Edgar that he fought vs Diego and Florian. Edgar wasn't trying to finish penn. He was active/quick, in n out, side to side; great execution. Doing this led to close rounds and out of harm's way.

My sense from the fight is BJ Penn's boxing isn't as impenetrable as once believed.

Having said all this, Edgar needed to fight the perfect gameplan in order to maybe, possibly win a decision if he got the right judges and he did just that.

Generic.

We ask all the time for a little honesty, a little frankness, and now we have someone who knows no other way to be. To a fanbase that is very easily disillusioned, it's almost necessary.

The first two rounds were quite fun to watch imo.

The crowd applauded after the conclusion of those two rounds.

The last 3 rounds were a different story.

Well, he actually said the exact opposite:

* @BB_Undead **** u
* @jmcc445 go **** yourself scumbag
* @92Brougham I give a **** about the fans. I don't give a **** about u! Get off my twitter and never watch ufc again
* @92Brougham go **** yourself!

I hated Dana when I first started watching UFC. I thought he was an immature, smug prick who was bad for the sport.

I've come around 180 degrees on him. That doesn't mean he doesn't go over the line sometimes (evenly read properly, the twitter **** doesn't help), but I have no doubt that he is good for MMA (and most of all, the UFC) in the long term. This was a massive effort that Dana would've worked for months or years on, and Silva crapped in his punchbowl.

This is either awesome or a deathwish. Not sure yet. Or maybe he realizes that if he "disrespects" Silva like Maia did that means Silva will just run away from him.

*just run away from him after busting sonnens face up and locking a decision in.

I had the last three rounds for Edgar so this seems possible. Does fightmetric factor in aggressiveness because Edgar was obviously far more aggressive.

nah, it's pretty much a computational score based on strikes landed afaik.

Mostly I was highlighting how absurd the 50-45 was. I think 48-47 either way would have been good.

I think you are missing the context of that statement. He basically forgot the question mark at the end. The guy he was responding too was accusing him of not caring and he was saying "I dont care? **** you!"

I think Dana White is a great promoter and he clearly cares about the fans. I wish they would treat the fighters better than slaves but overall he is very good.

Silva is an embarrassment. It was funny at first to see him taunt Maia for not engaging but then he did the exact same thing for 3 rounds. It was the most hypocritical and unsportsmanlike thing I have ever seen. Silva went WAY down the list of best fighters imo.

I really don't see how the 50-45 is absurd. There was no round Penn clearly won. Any round that you can give to BJ it was close, and since it was close it means you can give it to Edgar. Do I think it was 5-0 for Edgar, no, but the only round I can say with confidence I gave to BJ is the 1st round but even that was a competitive round, the 2nd round was a tossup from there on out I though Edgar won.

At some point during the 1st round the fight began to remind of the Dominick Cruz/Brian Bowles fight. One guy ducking in and out mixing up his angles and the other just standing in the middle of the ring trying to counter punch. Of course Penn was far more succesful than Bowles who was essentially just a punching bag in that fight.

I'm really surprised Penn didn't press the action more and never attempted a takedown. The one thing that comes from Penn losing is it makes the LW division a lot more interesting. I think now Florian should get a title shot against Edgar and Penn shold fight Maynard with the winner getting the next title shot. Also Penn's aura of invicibility is gone, which should make his future fights more competitive.

I'd really love to see nothing more than someone beating Anderson Silva til a ref has to drag him off. I know this will probably never happen but it's be worth every penny of $50

as much as i love the **** talk/actions, he needs to finish those types of fights. embarrass the guy for a round or two, then go in and get the kill. fans would love you, you'd be the modern day ali.

if not, let him do his little antics and get KTFO'd during it

This is absurd

Penn dominated the first two rounds, and you really aren't watching very closely or you don't know what you're talking about if you don't think Penn easily outlanded Edgar the first two rounds.

Edgar had a lot more bouncing in the first two rounds, and BJ hit him in the face a lot more. BJ clearly won both rounds.

Edgar landed 5 of 29 punches to the head in round 1. BJ landed 16 of 39. BJ threw more, landed more, and landed at a higher percentage.

Edgar landed 6 total strikes in the second round. He was 6/44, and only four shots to the head connected. Penn landed 17/49 strikes in that round. Once again, Penn threw more, landed more, and landed at a higher percentage. How exactly was it a 'tossup'?

Watch the fight without commentary and really actually watch to see which punches land. BJ clearly won the first two rounds.
