I feel unified rules of MMA/promoters/organisations as a whole only want to have so many weight divisions so that they're more 'meaningful' but would there really be any objections, particularly from fighters, to new weight divisions such as light/super middleweight and light/super welterweight?
If there had been a 'super heavyweight' division, Kimbo Slice might still be around.
Yeah, if you have 8 belts between 145-205 instead of 5 then those belts don't really mean as much, guys move up and down weight more often. And it does become like boxing where the actual fighters mean a little more and the belts mean a little less. And a company like UFC doesn't really have much incentive for that to happen, they want everything to revolve around guys trying to attain those titles.
