Well there you go now you're doing better.

what a boring troika of title fights.

This basically confirms what we knew about Aoki, shows a surprising lack of depth in Mousasi's game, and shows that either Shields is ridiculously good or Henderson somehow got old overnight.

Man, takedowns alone winning fights encourages behavior that makes MMA so boring sometimes.

Take the 'control' part out of the judging criteria and just go by who did the most damage to their opponent(as judged by the judges).

Shields made himself a lot of UFC money tonight.

control is important. You can't completely ignore it. I agree that many fighters try to exploit it, but just ignoring it completely isn't the answer. Just better judging.

For instance, I thought Mousasi easily won round 2 of his fight. Mo did enough to win the other rounds, when Mousasi was pretty gassed and didn't have so much activity from the bottom, but Mousasi clearly won round 2.

I really hope so. He looked dynamite tonight. Henderson looked old. For a large majority of the time he spent on his back, he wasn't even attempting to get out or escape, he was just waiting and surviving. Also, can we finally put to rest the idea of Henderson being a great MMA-wrestler? He's not. He's never been. He's average at best for whatever reason in MMA. Rampage, who was a JUCO wrestler or something, took him down several times, as have many other fighters.

Also, the reffing was terrible tonight. Yamasaki was terrible during melendez/aoki with his indecision. Big John telling Shields 'you have to work, you have to work!' while Shields is in full mount. ****ing ridiculous.

Also, can I reiterate how terrible the broadcasting is. Gus Johnson sucks donkey balls down his throat for MMA. He calls out random subs that are not being attempted, he says stupid ****, it's awful. When Shields got knocked down, he immediately screamed over the other two guys "HEEEEEEEE'S OUT! ITSSSSSSSS OVER" or something like that. Yeah, Shields had no chance, obv. Shamrock being allowed near a mike is awful in general but to comment on a guy that he clearly has a deep personal hate for, so bad that it's actually talked about ad nasuem, wow. That's unspeakably terrible.

More thoughts:

Huge coup for Dana if he releases Henderson right before Henderson visibly gets old and lets someone else splurge big money on him, and then he also signs away the guy who dismantled him immediately after that fight. That's a big if, but wow if that happens.

Aoki, lol. I am a huge Aoki fan, and I love watching him fight. But we all knew this was going to happen at some point in his career, especially in a cage under US rules where his judo is not as effective, and it's easier to sprawl and brawl, and it's easy to mash a guard-player into the cage. Aoki is tailor-made for a smaller ring and japanese rules, and he's going to get beat up by a ton of US based fighters under US rules.

Mousasi looked weirdly flat all night. Just didn't have much pep in his step, i don't know. King Mo still has some big holes in his game, but he's got very good wrestling and good top control, and that was enough to beat Mousasi. Mousasi seemed woefully unprepared. He must have known King Mo was going to shoot shoot shoot shoot all night, and his TD defense still wasn't there.

Really, CBS, your fighter intros are awful. Either do the Japan grand intros, or do the boxing/UFC style walkouts. Can the ****ty bikini dancers. It's embarrassing.

Shields beats anyone he can outwrestle imo.

He would probably beat Hardy the exact same way GSP did.

ok, just saw that vid

that could be very, very damaging for Strikeforce on CBS

As in, that could potentially end the relationship. This was a boring night of fights anyway, and that's a very dangerous thing to have happen on network television for a sport with MMA's reputation and image problems.

I basically agree with bloodyelbow. Dana White won huge tonight in just about every way. Breaking it down

The UFC still has the #1 LW in the world, which was in doubt.

Strikeforce's young gun Mousasi just got owned by a decent but by no means great newcomer.

And the guy he let walk away from the UFC (hendo) turns out to be old, and he'll probably sign the guy who beat him who looks amazing.

His competition put on three five round decisions that made for a pretty boring night.

And now his competition has problems related to an in-cage brawl.

Dream also looks lol as well.

Basically, Dana wins at everything. going to be hard to keep his ego in check now, lol.

I heart Mayhem Miller a thousand times, that dude is awesome squared.

But yeah, that incident is gonna make the CBS execs cringe like crazy...

If his striking improves he can be very, very dangerous, and possibly elite.

It is the dip**** Diaz brothers that, imo, started the whole thing. Mayhem was probably told by Strikeforce to get into the cage and I thought him and Shields were kinda friends anyway. Neither one of them seemed too serious and then the idiot Diazes decided to jump him.

ive never seen anyone get full mount that easily.

I wonder what gsp could do if he had that part of wrestling dominance mastered. Obviously, might just be hendo sucking pretty bad at preventing mount.

Shields is probably the #2 WW and #2-3 MW in the world right now.

Shields is just running through people. Elite, elite wrestling and amazing BJJ that's even better than his wrestling. He's got amazing passes that nobody has stopped, he's very tight in top control from dominant positions, just overall incredible grappler.

Mayhem is a kind of a dick. This could seriously set back MMA, and lead to CBS canceling cards and fighters losing their jobs. There is nothing awesome about this in the least. It's not all his fault, but he needs let go of your ADD for one second and not be a dip****.

Melendez started it. Gil pushes Mayhem away because he's offended, and Mayhem is jumping back for another shove and the Diaz brothers jump in and it gets completely out of control.

That was part of it, but Shields is a high level BJJ blackbelt. there's some grappling video of him out there, i'll try to find a few links of him owning some BJJ tournaments against name grapplers.

how do you not choke him out though with about 8 different occasions mounted (being that good at bjj)

I guess he's more confident in keeping the position by just doing slightly weak ground and pound?

I agree that it's not all Mayhem's fault and would go further to say that it's not his fault at all, not even a little bit. It looks to me like he comes in there and tries to run some publicity and then gets attacked by a bunch of guys. In fairness, I'm drunk right now and I could be wrong, but I see Mayhem running his mouth and then getting jacked by several dudes.

Mayhem got in the ring very quickly, for a reason -- Strikeforce wanted him in there. Then people lost their **** and an ugly incident happened.

I fail to see how this is Mayhem's fault at all, like even 1%.
