Hmm, disagree with respect to pure shot stopping. When you factor in salary, I think the basic shot stopping abilities on the whole are pretty good.

What is absolutely way below standard is the keepers ability to distribute the ball ..... on the whole it is atrocious.

Pressing the keeper is free money in this league.

DROGBA IS BACK.

Well, not exactly. He has signed with Phoenix in the USL, which apparently also has Omar Bravo on its roster. More importantly, DROGBA has the option to join the ownership when they apply for MLS in the next round of expansion.

are they paying him a lot, or is it the possibility of MLS ownership $$$ ... or both?

related: why hasn't the Beckham Miami thing happened yet?

I think Miami's slot in the league is still guaranteed, but who knows when operation and competition begins.

As far as I've read, 12 groups met a January 31 deadline, and Garber has previously suggested that two more franchises will be awarded some time this year. That'll make 26: (22 current + LAFC (2018) + Miami (20xx)).

The 12 cities:
Phoenix
Sacramento
San Diego
Tampa st. Pete
Indianapolis
Detroit
St. Louis
Charlotte
Raleigh-Durham
Cincinnati
Nashville
San Antonio

As for DROGBA, terms were not disclosed. Not sure USL salaries become public.

ETA: the official release says he can become a club executive next year. Read elsewhere that this is likely a sporting director type position.

The holdup with Miami is getting their stadium sorted.

Man, Austin sure crapped the bed. I think Garber really wanted a team there, and I think it would have been a perfect fit with the demos there and being the only pro team in town.

I would think Sacramento is a near-lock for one of the spots, and maybe now PHX jumps to the head of the pack although I think I'd prefer Indy or maybe a team in Charlotte.

Really though, none of those cities seem that great. Most of my friends who are passionate fans live in cities like Portland or Denver. I think priority #1 should have been getting stadiums in city centres, with priority #2 being a city with younger, progressive demos.

I think 20 teams should have been the cut off like many leagues around the world. Eventually we'll probably end up with a 16-team playoff, which seems dumb for a sport like soccer.

i dont understand your post. you are comparing the passion of fans in cities with a team to fans in cities without a team?

Yep, this is one of my main problems with The Don. He's an NFL guy not a soccer guy.

I have a sad feeling the endgame is going to be a 28-32 team league with 4-8 divisions and 16 team playoffs.

It'll be absurd.

That was really terrible.

Two guys going for the ball, looked like a clear play-on

Even calling a penalty was thin, but a straight red? Terrible call

Atlanta's keeper is really good

Made some great saves, and even got a fingertip on that penalty

Jesus, awful red, but I'll reluctantly take it. Not convinced it was a penalty as the defender was looking up to play the ball, but I guess it was savvy by Mancosu to position himself like that.

Tabla so good, when's Biello gonna get a clue and permanently bench Oduro? And start Crépeau over Bush.

Lol at 3 defenders standing over a free kick for MTL, never seen that before. Dzemaili can't get here soon enough.

Depends which player/team it is I think. Montreal player got a red a few games ago for hitting Galaxy player Jermaine Jones in the shoulder (Jones then flopped to the ground like he was shot).
