Frustrating. A couple of lapses on defense for the union. A post and point-blank block by Bendik. 2-1 loss for Union. Bedoya is a great team player. But not the focal point of a team.

Portland is notably better this year no?

Oh yeah, Portland looks great, even with Nagbe continuing to frustrate with his unwillingness to take over a game.

Guzman has been everything they ever needed in the midfield. Roy Miller is filling in at center back with Ridgewell out for now, but I expect he'll be moved over to the left and help fill the hole left by Villafana moving to Mexico after 2015.

IMO yes, it appears they are better than they were last year. Guzman is an improvement over Jewsbury, and Olum and Miller are improvements over Taylor and Taylor. Powell seems to getting better every year. What’s really becoming clear is what a detriment Milano was; Nagbe has been playing the mid-wing role, and Nagbe will play defense which Milano very rarely did. This has freed up Valeri to be more effective. It’s amazing how many times he appears in the perfect space on the pitch. The league seems to be calling tighter this year which is allowing Adi a chance to do his thing. He was OK last year, but it seemed he was endlessly getting hacked, held and pushed. Charra is playing well again this year. He started off well last year, but seemed to wear down as the year went on. Still a small sample size, but they are in form right now, and I don’t recall that they were ever able to put together a 3 game stretch last year.

Josef Martinez can get ****ed.

Schweinsteiger to Chicago is reportedly done. The last two sentences are not related.

The Tribune reported his contract is a one-year deal worth $4.5 million with a mutual option for another year.
so will he actually play a lot or just collect a check for a few appearances like grampard?

My understanding is his rehab from his latest injury is almost complete, so he'll play until he gets hurt again.

You'd be salty too if your team was on the business end of that game.

I think Chicago should start pricing contracts in "% of a new stadium/location cost"

Scchweinsteiger feels like a solid 2-3% contract.

More like 1%. The Fire's lease states all league games must be in Bridgeview. Also, our owner isn't wealthy enough to privately finance a stadium. So it's 100m to pay off the owner, 100m (wild guess) to pay off the village and 200m for the stadium. There also might be a NYCFCesque fight to get the stadium done. Bottom line, the Fire will nevet be top half in attendance in my lifetime.

/sigh. I wish there was a way to physically move the stadium to somewhere in Pilsen, South Loop, etc. The sad thing is, the Fire were looking at spots in Logan Square, but that won't ever happen now even if the Fire were to move as the land values are just too expensive in that part of Chicago now (along with a bunch of eye sore condos).

The Fire are basically stuck in Bridgeview and the league would have to do something to help with the cost of getting the Fire into the city proper (not going to happen).

Portland/Seattle anyway

the Whitecaps legit suck, should finish in the bottom of the conference again
went to the TFC match on Saturday, it was horrible
team has all the same old problems with no solutions in sight
sad!

in theory a Schweiny/Dax/Juninho 3-man MF could be pretty tight, if they're planning to hang on to all of them

and in practice, having 2 good to go at all times in a 4-2-3-1 or something should be doable

/in b4 Schweiny is legit finished

MLS on international breaks is bad.

Bad MLS teams on international breaks when they oddly have a number of players who get called up to national teams are just awful.

Fold Minnesota and relaunch in a couple years. How the hell did they get a draw away to the team with the 2nd best record last year?
