I've never paid much mind to MLS apart from randomly watching highlights and the rare match from time to time but I moved to Boston last year and have a friend here who is as into the Revolution/MLS as anybody I've ever met. I watched pieces of the Fire/NYCFC, Orlando/SLC, and Dynamo/Revs matches this weekend and I have to admit I was pretty entertained. The defense and refs were major LOLs but as my friend says, that's part of the charm to the league!

It seems there's actually a good amount of exciting talent spread around between promising young internationals, solid american vets, and of course the over the hill eurostars treating the league like it's your over30 rec sunday league. I recognize several players who I saw play in college which is cool, Nguyen, Bruin, Burnbuy, Meram, and that guy Caleb Porter when he was a super arogant dude at Akron Also shoutouts to the two former Detroit City FC guys Adam Bedell (orlando) and Kofi Opare (dcu)

If the league is half as choatic as this weekend's slate was I could be hooked.

Nice. The Revs are gonna be fun to watch this year, even without Germany Jones.

As long as you accept it ain't the EPL or the B-Liga, MLS is a damn fine league to watch. Certainly a top 20 league, and possibly close to a top-10 league top-to-bottom.

Interesting, that sounds about right to me and I follow scores week to week from most of the european and south american leagues. How would you rate the top 5 for top-to-bottom quality on this side of the Atlantic? I'd probably go

Argentina
LigaMX
MLS
Brazil
Columbia

It's sort of hard to do because players move around so much and young talent gets scooped up quickly but I know the league situation in Brazil is a mess politically w/ widespread corruption. Obviously the top MLS sides can't compete with the top teams of other leagues, or at least haven't been able to due to a lot of factors holding league back but my guess would be that no MLS team would be in danger of relegation anywhere except maybe Mexico. I could be wrong but that's just my perception of the landscape.

Tough to say. The gaps between the top and bottom MLS teams are much smaller than the gap between the top and bottom teams in any of those other leagues.

I think most MLS teams would stay in the top in any of those leagues, but that's just my gut.

Friday Night MLS is back! Debut for Nocerino, but Kaka out at least another week.

As a reminder,

not a great showing from Orlando, but that was a nailed-on penalty for Larin at the end.

seems like this has to be an awful result for Orlando up a man 2/3 of the match.

some pretty good matches tomorrow.

^ yeah sounded like Orlando were robbed of a stoppage time PK to win it

didn't watch the game but looked around on twitter, and literally no one was saying it even debatable
i know it can be hard to call ones that late if you aren't 1000% sure, but you hate to see that

NYCFC trade DM Andrew Jacobson to Vancouver for TAM

would be funny/sad if this ended VWFC's slightly more attacking ambitions after 2 matches
(i assume he won't play today)

Stade Olympique is the fakest of all the grasses.

Trade Drogba for allocation money IMO, Impact don't need him.
