Re: MLS 2012 Season

Didnt really see it tbh, but its not an uncommon call in pk shootouts. It gets called 1-2 times a year at least in EPL games I think.

As a Sporting fan I love it but can't help but feel like it was tainted. Would love to hear otherwise. I was watching a Spanish feed so announcers didn't really clue me in. Pretty terrible PKs all around in all honesty.
Yeah, he was definitely off his line to soon. It's not called often, but it's the correct call. I would still be pissed if I was a Sounders fan though, because it looked like Nielsen was off his line early in the stop he had before that.

Some high quality comedy on those PK's. Fantastic shanks by EJ, Alonso, and Zusi. Zusi's failed chip was my favorite.

That failed chip was a thing of utter beauty. I won't be surprised to see it go viral on the soccer blogs across the interwebz.

It was definitely the anti-Pirlo...Espinoza's saved PK was awful tool. Thank god for Seattle WIL

Re: MLS 2012 Season

Those were some terrible penalties, but good for Sporting coming away with their first trophy in over a decade.

I also realized that Brad Evans is pretty high in my list of non-Landon's who I would want to take a penalty for me. Dude is all business, technical enough to place it, smart enough to smash it, and never seems nervous. In the few seconds between when he walked up to take the penalty and took it I went from "huh, that's odd that he'd go first" to "holy ****, I'd be terrified if I were a big SKC fan" as I thought about it more. Of course his was the best penalty of the 10.

Refreshing but rare take from a Sounders fan RT @Sounderstilidie: either way our 3 best players missed. No excuses. Congrats SKC

Ah good call vikefan! I was only thinking about their MLS Cup. Completely whiffed on their previous USOC success.

Re: MLS 2012 Season

lol SKC

https://twitter.com/BrianStraus/stat...35306307747841
@BrianStraus
Seattle unhappy about 1 - PKs at Cauldron End (I agree) 2 - "We Are The Champions" piped into the visitors' locker room after the game.

And a little clarification later making it slightly less troll-tastic

https://twitter.com/BrianStraus/stat...54678246051840
@BrianStraus
SKC music clarification: WatC on 1 of several LSP sound feeds, not piped directly into SS locker room. SS had ability to select feed.

Re: MLS 2012 Season

PTFC swapped GKs with Montreal, then dealt Mike Chabala to DCU for a supplemental draft pick. From the little I've read, it sounds like he was popular with some fans but a bad locker room presence?

Either way, with Woolard's concussion some LB depth was necessary so I guess trading for someone else's occasionally starter made sense. It sorta worked with Brandon McDonald.

Re: MLS 2012 Season

Here's updated standings with PPG, PPG needed to 46 pts, and the maximum points they can finish with.

Code:
	Eastern Conference
#	Club Pts	GP	W	L	T	PPG	PPG to 46	Max Pts Possible
1	Sporting KC	40	23	12	7	4	1.74 0.55 73
2	Houston Dynamo	40	23	11	5	7	1.74 0.55 73
3	NY Red Bulls	38	23	11	7	5	1.65 0.73 71
4	D.C. United	36	21	11	7	3	1.71 0.77 75
5	Chicago Fire	35	22	10	7	5	1.59 0.92 71
6	Montreal Impact	30	25	9	13	3	1.20 1.78 57
7	Columbus Crew	28	20	8	8	4	1.40 1.29 70
8	Philly Union	23	20	7	11	2	1.15 1.64 65
9	NE Revolution	23	22	6	11	5	1.05 1.92 59
10	Toronto FC	19	22	5	13	4	0.86 2.25 55

	Western Conference
#	Club Pts	GP	W	L	T	PPG	PPG to 46	Max Pts Possible
1	SJ Earthquakes	44	23	13	5	5	1.91 0.18 77
2	Real Salt Lake	42	24	13	8	3	1.75 0.40 72
3	Sounders FC	37	22	10	5	7	1.68 0.75 73
4	Whitecaps FC	34	23	9	7	7	1.48 1.09 67
5	LA Galaxy	33	23	10	10	3	1.43 1.18 66
6	Chivas USA	26	20	7	8	5	1.30 1.43 68
7	Colorado Rapids	25	23	8	14	1	1.09 1.91 58
8	FC Dallas	23	24	5	11	8	0.96 2.30 53
9	Timbers 20	22	5	12	5	0.91 2.17 56
IMO, if you need to average close to 2 points per game to finish with 46, you're done(especially when it may take 47 or 48 points to lock up 5th or better). That includes the Revs and TFC in the East, and the Rapids, FCD and the Timbers in the West.

Yeah I think Chabala was pretty popular with the TA. Dunno about the locker room issue. He was definitely one of Spencer's guys, he worked with him in Houston.

Re: MLS 2012 Season

He's an ok MLS keeper. I think Ricketts is the better of the two, but your defense is also better than Portland's.
