Huge pressure on Eddie Johnson to be successful. If he is not, this trade might go down as one of the worst in MLS history. I see Neagle as somebody who will be an MLS all star in 2-3 years. He is a local boy too, so it really hurts to see him let go. I was really fond of Fucito too, so emotionally speaking this trade is a kick in the balls.
Emotions aside, from a football perspective this is still a risky move. Johnson has not been scoring a lot in the past four years. He has not even played full seasons worth of matches (80 matches in 2008-11 according to Wikipedia). If he starts scoring like he did in Dallas and Kansas City, stuff that got Fulham interested in him, then this might end up being a good deal, at least in short term. However, if that does not happen, then this move is going to be one that we regret over and over again.
Positionally speaking this makes some sense. If Johnson turns out to be a big upgrade over Fucito, then letting a winger go with the trade makes sense. One has to assume that the Sounders are confident with Zakuani coming back. Sivebaek is also somebody who can switch over to the left, and Sigi seems to have high expectations for him. Neagle might have had a hard time finding playing time this season.
Long story short: Eddie Johnson better start scoring a lot of goals. Somebody mentioned 20+ but that is way too much to expect. Get to 10 and I'll be happy. Nobody got close to 20 last season in the whole MLS (DeRo and Wondo got 16).
