I'm pulling for the Dbacks to tie it here and for Rodney to blow it again in the T10

My theory is Rodney just likes being out there as long as possible. Dude loves to play baseball.

DBacks MLB.TV feed said the last time Rodney blew saves in 2 consecutive appearances was August 2013. I refuse to believe that. Any stats that show that I'm going to ignore and declare fake news.

First game of the year, sigh.

I'm not mad at Rodney, his ERA exactly matches his skill level. It is the management that is causing us to lose games like this.

Only brightside of having to see that in person is that hopefully he will never have to pitch for the Dbacks in an important spot again.

Like there was absolutely no reason to take Archie Bradley out of that game.

The Dbacks are doing so much right, to have their worst pitcher (maybe Delgado worse) pitching in high leverage spots is lol bad.

When there were runners on first and second and we were still up by 2 runs, I was gauging my expectation and I really felt we had less than a 50% chance to win.

After going to the game, it seems like a lot of the reason he is closing is pure marketing bull****. They had this huge introduction for him, everyone was exciting and cheering and dancing and of course his stupid arrow bull****. Having a certain guy in as a closer should not be a PR/marketing move for a team that could compete.

Found another unwritten rule, this one regarding B2B2B jacks:

Quote:
“Someone would always pull you to the side and say, ‘Look, there have been two consecutive home runs hit—the third batter doesn’t swing at the first pitch,’ ” said Hal McRae in an interview for The Baseball Codes, talking about his time coming up with Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine in the early 1970s. “Take the first pitch. Alert the pitcher that you’re not swinging, that you know he’s out there, that you respect him and you respect the job that he’s trying to do.”

Is there data out there that suggests what an acceptable steal to caught stealing ratio is to 'break even'. Obviously very situation dependent, but in general is there a guideline? 3:1? Higher?

Albert Pujols is tied with Ted Williams in career RBIs, and a 3rd fellow, Al Simmons.

I feel like Al Simmons isn't a very celebrated guy.

After having Rodney as Mariners closer for a while his save conversation numbers can be misleading. Every time he goes out there it's a huge adventure. The whole fan base was screaming for it to stop and McClendon would just keep trotting him out there... until he got fired.

It's hard to take the D'Backs seriously as contenders with Rodney as their closer. There is no excuse to throw him out there even one more time.

His career WHIP is 1.38, lmao. I can't believe people keep paying him to close, it's pretty amazing tbh. Riding off that one year of dominance he had in 2012 I guess
