There's no point in even looking at defensive stats this early in the season. Over their careers, Tomas is -27 in DRS over 1791 innings; Pollock is 35 over 3277.

It probably will be a pitcher who gets hit in the head by a line drive, but it could be a hitter.
I mean, a cricketer died recently after getting hit in the head by a bouncer, and that's in spite of all the protective gear they wear.

Machado slid into Pedroia on purpose. Oh sure, his leg just happen to lift up off the ground and right into pedroia calf, please. Barnes pitch slipped, don't think he threw at his head on purpose and even if he did, Machado had 2 dangerous slides that game and could have injured people.

Have you even watched the slide? He pulls the cleat back after it kicks up off the ground then immediately looks awful and goes and checks on Pedroia.

It's the "even if he did" bit that I have a problem with. He did this wrong => it's fine to throw a baseball at 90+ at someone's head. GTFOOH.

It's not the ****ing playground you children.

His foot bounced up right when he landed, which physically makes sense, and he clearly let up with his foot before/during impact, and he clearly showed immediate concern as if it were an accident.

But yeah, let's throw a heater at his head

Has anyone actually advocated throwing at his head? Or is TheGramuel arguing a point that nobody has sincerely disagreed with?

Plenty of people are saying that you have to expect retribution as if that's ok. I'm not just talking about headhunting (though obviously that's the most egregious), I'm talking about deliberately throwing at someone for retribution.

SuperSwag said "even if he did" suggesting he's fine with the headhunting. Someone else called me a pussy for thinking that throwing a baseball at someone is wrong (again, I'm not talking about brushback pitches).

And not just on this board, the commentators at the time were like "yep, that was coming, and I have to say I think they should have gone for the knee - a knee for a knee" - seriously - on the broadcast.

**** that ****.

So we're good with brushback pitches? Like if someone is crowding the plate or diving out over it and you want to "take your plate back"?

Are you really equating pitches up and in, as part of the strategy of the actual game (ie getting them out) with those deliberately right at the body to attempt to hurt someone in revenge for something they've done which has nothing to do with getting them out? Really?

Brushback pitches, to me, say "Up and in". That's more dangerous than aiming for someone's knees

ETA: By "in", I assume in off the plate

I get into this discussion a few times a year and I still can't believe that people are okay with intentionally throwing at a batter anywhere, let alone above the neck.

I hit a kid in the face when I was 15 and broke his orbital bone. Just beyond the obvious of what he had to deal with, it was really hard on me for a few months. It would do a lot of good for everyone to think about that side if they're unwilling or uncaring about what they could do to someone else's life.

Yes. As a batter, I would much rather have a fastball to my hip as payback for one of the opposing players getting beaned, than have a fastball under my chin because you don't like me crowding the plate.

One has a higher chance of serious injury. Any guesses as to which one?

QFT

I took dozens of balls off my knees in my career. The only time that I got knocked down was a curveball I thought was going to break but didn't-it ended up glancing off my helmet that led to a concussion. Only time in any sport I've even come out of a game for injury. I would have much rather taken a fastball to the knee

100% aboard the train that TheGramuel is driving, throwing at people is super dumb and has no place.

The non-breaking spinners that stay up top are the ****ing worst, that's how I got beaned in the head too. Felt like I was being punished for hanging there.

Astros lose 3 outfielders in a week and Altuve is probably out for a while too. Still racking up wins though.

Your starting pitcher is Andrew Cashner and you're against Ervin Santana. You get a lead off single to start the bottom of the first, sac bunt, then get caught stealing third. What the **** are you doing Bannister? You need like 7 runs to win with Cashner. You're also not against Kershaw.
