I feel we're heard that before only for the team to blow by the tax (definitely recall Yankees claiming that a few years ago before going on a spending spree).

Would be foolish for Sox to trade away top prospects for Sale and Thornburg, but then allow the luxury tax to force them to roll without a solid DH.

The only argument I can think of for Boston not wanting to bother with EE and I guess what could depress his value ultimately is teams nor wanting to waste a big money contract on an aging DH in front of the holy ****ing **** mega FA class

There's a few others that could be a big deal by that point but as it stands are pretty whatever (Harvey, beltre, grandal, Adam Jones, drew pomagrante)

All in all that free agent class is so stacked that it's probably way in the interest of the lesser to mid guys to reup before they hit free agency lest they get e^5'd

I think enough old school guys will not vote for Ortiz due to steroids. If guys like Piazza and Bagwell are struggling/struggled to get in due to suspicious, I don't see how Ortiz doesn't also get dinged given he tested positive (and then you have to account for that he was an inferior player to both).

I can't fathom Papi not getting in. Simply based on October heroics for the goddamn Red Sox, to go with 500 HR club. And that's just on the field stuff. People like Papi.

Never mind steroids, does anyone think his play doesn't merit induction?
