There's no issue with it. This is just an idea, but it would add a little bit more to the game where best record doesn't. You're already playing for the 1 seed.

I don't think it makes every game count much more than it already does. I think the fans would enjoy the wrinkle, which was the caveat given before.

Hmmm, Dbacks got Shelby Miller once.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale:

Red Sox get Chris Sale

White Sox get Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, and two prospects (OF Alexander Basabe and RHP Victor Diaz)

I'm just glad he didn't go to the Nationals and make the NL East unwinnable for anyone else for the foreseeable future.

Is this package better than the one the dbacks gave up for Miller?

Seems like a good trade for both sides. The White Sox probably weren't going to get much more than that for Sale and his value could only really drop by hanging onto him longer, so I think their fans should be happy.

So, as a throw-in, did Boston get Drake's locker?

Wondering why they waited until the offseason to get serious with this
White Sox ask during the season was Betts and Benintendi. BoSox had to wait for them to get their heads out of their asses.

I'd say so, but not by close enough to eclipse the difference between the two pitchers. Moncada's ceiling is a lot higher than Swanson's and Kopech is a unique property.

Seems like a good time for Chris Sales arm to finally fall off.

Whitesox really need to unload the rest now; Abreu, Eaton at the minimum.

True but the dbacks gave up a legit major league asset in Inciarte. Just think its incredible the two packages are even comparable. But I digress.

Boston's paying the remaining $31 owed to Moncada.

Travis Shaw to Brewers for relief pitching - guessing they will roll with Panda at 3B then?

Yeah, no reason not to have everyone unloaded by the deadline, and the sooner the better with the possible exception of Quintana and the bull pen who could probably fetch more in July, though that's a bit of a health gamble. I'd move em all now for a fair return.

Abreu, Jones, and Frazier are nice pieces, Eaton and Quintana are great pieces. Lawrie, Cabrera, Robertson all have some degree of value, though they might be more deadline guys if they can have a nice first half. Seems like a decent core to build around, to the point that I'm amazed that they've been bad the last few years.

Dropping Sale and his ~5 WAR and not immediately adding anything to the MLB roster in return suggests that Abreu, Jones and Frazier are gone for sure, and Quintana ought to be as well. His contract is as good as Sale's, if not better, so the return could be nearly as nice. If you go that far, then it's just a matter of deciding if younger guys with more control like Rodon, Saladino, Garcia, Anderson, etc. have any immediate value since the team will suck for another 2 years minimum.

that was just a stream of conciousness, so I'm sure there's something wrong in there. Like, does Lawrie acutally have value? Is Q's contract better than Sales? etc.
