RE: Ellsbury

If he can repeat last year then it's a great pick but just found this about his FB/HR rate

Quote:
Ellsbury hit a similar percentage of fly balls in 2011 as he did in 2009 (his last full season), yet he saw his homer/fly ball ratio nearly quadruple!

Lincecum is 27 and has two consecutive seasons of <5 fWar...not top 20 imo

Ellsbury is whatever, dont love it, dont hate it, only one season of top performance, could be fluky

Had this guy #1 on my "board" (I didn't think too much about this pre-draft) so pretty pumped.

Troy Tulowitzki

Tulowitzki is 27 and has been worth around 6 WAR (fangraphs) per year when healthy. He plays good defense at shortstop, which is one of the most premium positions in the game. The only possible question mark is health, but it's a risk I'm willing to take to get a guy who can probably anchor the middle of my lineup and defense for the next decade.

In the last three years Tulo has hit .304/.376/.554 with 89 HRs while playing good defense. He is miles above any other shortstop in the draft imo. Very excited to land him at this spot.

Tulo is a great pick.

Pick incoming

Ellsbury pick is obviously very gambly. I personally don't like it since I expect a big power regression, but if he keeps like 15-20 HR power he's still a pretty valuable CF I guess.

Lincecum ran cold in HR/FB last 2 seasons. Kids got a rubber arm. Definitely going to be running strong at 32-34 and I wouldn't be surprised to see him putting up top 5-7 #s at 35-36.

Other pitchers aren't Tim. Pitchers, I'm told, blow out their arms a lot. In this draft the youngins are LV Real Estate circa 2006. Not sure what the final ruling is on injury status, but it should matter.

tulo sick value. one of the 4 with upton, kemp and UNDRAFTED who could have legit gone #1 imo

I am a fan of the Tulo pick.

Tulo is ok. Guy is pretty kinda only above average away from COORS. Positional scarcity I guess.

I get the argument that its not optimal due to positional value, but lincecum GOATS in the clutch, when it matters most. Cant say that about a lot of pitchers today seemingly.

Jacoby way too soon. 28 and has had one elite season which I don't think he ever duplicates. Tulo could of been the number one pick.

Has anyone seen how Tim has done with replacement level hitters?

Oh, right

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Mike Stanton

At only 22 years old, Mike Stanton has already put up 7.3 WAR and hit over 56 homeruns in under 1000 PA. Stanton absolutely crushes the ball. Don't believe me, look at the chart

The only real weakness to his game is his tendancy to K, but fangraphs says that should get better and when has fangraphs ever been wrong?

Bonus video of him raking

Tulo is a hot head who will break his hand punching the dugout wall in frustration after Tim sits him down.

The one thing that would make me hesitate a bit on Tulo (and just a bit, I mean, he's still great) is that he has a pretty obvious home/away split. OPS is about .120 lower away from Coors.

That said, he's still easily the best SS in MLB and it makes sense to take him very high.

EDIT: I see people already talked about this.
