I feel like people are stressing on the 10 years too much. A guy who is gonna be good for 7 years is still going to be super valuable. The only guys who are gonna not be really old 10 years from now are really young players, very few of which are proven commodities. For all intents and purposes, IT IS a 6-8 year dynasty.

i'd say 10 years instead of 6 was probably the reasoning for the first two picks, so it's not insignificant, though i agree players that will have an impact in 10 years will be all gone quickly and we'll all have a bunch of replacement players then.

Yea it's a ten year dynasty. Age matters and makes it fun. If we just picked the best players in the game it would be boring.

Went the safe route here, was debating a younger guy with more upside and much more risk and premium position guy, but ultimately went with the safest pick and one of my favorite players which is:

Agree people are overrating youth already. Like all the picks so far except for Kershaw. This draft is super deep at the top btw.

Matt Kemp was my #2, I debated between him and Upton, but ultimately went with Upton due to being younger.

Don't like the Kershaw pick, IMO no pitcher should be going this early, especially one that throws a huge amount of sliders and could easily become injured.

Longo is fine at 4 too.

I expected Kemp to go really high but just wouldn't have been comfortable picking him. Not a great track record of success and I'd personally be surprised if he came all that close to replicating his 2011 season again.

i feel like ppl have a really flawed perspective here. 10 year dynasty does not imply every player must play for 10 years. you'll be drafting prospects later on, giving up on better players because they can only play 6-7 years in favor of lesser players who may play higher is not really a strong plan

Yeah, there's simply noway you can over value youth in this draft. You aren't calling up your best prospect when 30 year old player X retires in year 7, you're bringing up a replacement level player.

Not sure people are quite understanding that.

The confidence I have in Kershaw being an elite player 3-7 years down the line is a lot less than the confidence I have in an equally valuable, or even slightly less valuable, position player being elite in any same time frame.

Which may be a totally viable strategy. In fact, the team you root for irl is doing this right now.
