Better question: How would MJ be able to score in a league where zone defense was legal when he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from outside and was a completely one dimensional interior scorer until after his first retirement. It's still a stupid question, but nowhere near as stupid as your question.
Lol. Lebron's game revolves around dribble penetration. Jordan's one or two dribble crossover pullup was his goto. Lebron bricked that shot 3 times last night

and lebron is a very long way off in these areas. knowledgeable posters know this.

it's too early to get so desperate. the series is not over yet.

Exactly.

Lebron slurpers, he's got a longgggg way to go.

This is an almost 600 post thread on the LABRON/MJ goat debate which I've posted in extensively. I'm sure you can figure the answer out on your own without me holding your hand.

People adjust for era, obv. The 1960's had 8 teams, and you only had to win 2 series to rang. Adjusting for era, MJ had a higher peak, and his 6 championships are as or more impressive, which is part of what leads to GOAT.

Now take the current era vs the 90's. Today there are 30 teams, and you need to win 4 series. In the 90's there were 27-29 teams, and you needed to win 4 series. There are arguments about competition, rules, etc, but almost all would agree that whatever the adjustment, it is far less than vs the 60's.

In the current era, players like Shaq and Duncan have had high peaks and 4 titles but not been seriously considered for GOAT. So could LeBron make it there with less than 6 titles? Sure, it's possible, but his peak would have to be noticeably higher than MJ (not just close and debateable, as it is currently), and then perhaps he could make it there on 5. He's a dog to improve considerably from here + win 5 total, or to stay at the same level as now + win 6 total, though, whichever side you take.

There's more that you have to look at than just era adjustments and number of titles to determine the GOAT. For instance, how about number of seasons where they were the most valuable player in the league (in terms of actually being most valuable, not winning an award from the writers):

Jordan: 8 (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997)
LeBron: 7 (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013)
Shaq: 3 (1999, 2000, 2001)
Duncan: 3 (2002, 2004, 2005)

The fact that LeBron's so close to MJ in seasons as the most valuable player despite still being 5 years younger than Jordan was the last year he was most valuable says a lot about his chances of ultimately surpassing Jordan's career. I think a season being the most valuable player in the league should be just as important as a ring when evaluating GOAT-hood.

any way you evaluate who the goat is, mj comes out on top. even with this new way you would like to have included in the conversation.

your new way punishes mj for going to play baseball. so there's two more mvp's right there. then it gives lebron an mvp while he would still be in college if he was mj.

so there is a 3-4 mvp swing right there, depending on how you look at it.

then there is the obvious consideration that your years are wrong.

firstly, you included years for lebron when he wasn't mvp - like 2006... this must have been a typo on your part for including this year. no way he's mvp that yr.

then ditto for 2008. garnett turned the celtics around (and rightly won mvp), and chris paul had his best season leading the hornets to 7 vs spurs and all of his ws numbers are significantly higher than lebron, while he only barely trailed bron in PER.

then i noticed you didn't include 1998 for mj, his most boss season. shaq's offensive win share was a paltry 6.7, mj's was 10.4. very big difference.

i guess you could give the mvp to malone again, but malone is a lot like bron - vastly inferior WIM and piles on great stats utilizing an inferior style of play that doesn't positively affect his team as much as mj's style.
.

Not sure what qualifies your guess of whose best over the MVP voting peoples, but anyway.

Also to be fair MJ was still probably the best basketball player in the world in 1994 and 1995, he just wasn't playing...

Yes you are right, that play is less impressive because his team was routing one of the best teams in the world in an NBA finals game.
