the fact that he was still in high school makes it more excusable, not less. most people do a lot more cringe-worthy things during their teen years than giving themselves a pretentious nickname.

yes the miami show was an embarrassment, maybe he whines too much to the officials at times despite receiving star treatment (the same treatment Jordan had), and can be passive-aggressive to the media sometimes. but regardless of whether you think he's the goat or not, he's handled his career remarkably well for someone who's been in the national spotlight since he was 16 (?).

it's really weird that some people amplify Lebron's annoying-but-harmless character flaws and almost completely ignore other stars who are actually bad people.

PER definitely has it's issues, having said that what exactly is your issue with any of those rankings?

It's interesting that Lebron played with a guy who has a top 10 all time PER and another who shows up at 28 and Jordan didn't play with anyone in that top 50 on his team, ever.

And if you look at the top 20, Jordan played far more games against a more impressive group of guys. Most of Lebron's competition starts showing up just outside the top 20.

edit: Looking at the updated list, Wade is down to 12th, and Curry Westbrook are now in the top 20. Pippen did have a high PER while on the bulls, but several years of being a lesser player post-bulls dragged his numbers down to 115th.

I'm not crediting Wade as being against Lebron since he was a significant team mate of his. So I see 7 vs 5, with a footnote that Lebron teamed up with one guy from the 20. By the time Lebrons teams were relevant, Shaq wasn't relevant anymore, and even joined Lebron briefly.

So you're counting Shaq against LeBron for playing with him but not counting Shaq as playing against Lebron.
