unless curry is going to complain to the media about having to be a pure offscreen shooter...

and for yr examples, i'm sure there are counter examples somewhere. eg. Love & Kyrie + Lebron being a better 'fit' than Bosh & Wade + Lebron... (but it taking Bosh to buy into the duties necessary and change his gameplay).

ah who knows, maybe yr right

i just have this feeling that how players play now are just products of their situations and not some inherent style and that i'd rather err to the side of talent & physical freakiness -- (makes me think of that story of MJ taking it to heart to defend Kukoc)

unless yr dwight howard
right, that's the root of the disagreement. Same disagreement I have with VM. Dragic brought his inherent style to SG. But he's a human being and didn't want to be matched up on defense against bigger size the entire game and, going back to my other point, he also wants to be the quarterback. He wants the ball in his hands.

It's a bit of coach worship with the other viewpoint tbh. It's like a general, he can put his soldiers in the best position and use strategy but he can't change who they are.

to say Bron could be that, while potentially accurate, isn't a small thing. I think even if Bron could possibly eclipse Kawhi as a defender overall, Kawhi would still be the better defender of 2's (MJ)

yeah, that's it

i guess at this point i am willing to concede that i do not know enough to claim or disclaim whether MJ and Lebron James and Steph Curry and Shaq are willing/capable to defer the ball to CP3 for the greater good of the team or not

well I don't either, just my 2 cents

Shaq doesn't have a choice tho

Real bigs are reliant on guards to get them the ball, it's why China was always so sad w/ Yao. They couldn't even get him the ball.

That's the debate. When making an all time team in any sport do you take the players that you think would have the best results or just simply take the best player you can at every position?

seemingly the debate is usually comparing generations

it becomes do you compare them to their contemporaries or whether they could actually play with guys today (Wilt def could as an example)

construct a team vs collection of individuals is more nuanced than it usually even gets to. Plus most don't even comprehend the distinction (not here)

I'd argue that if you have to choose only one of MJ/Curry while still having access to everyone else, you have to choose Curry and it isn't close. You can get the slashing/scoring from others, but the 3 point threat Curry would give isn't replaceable AORN.

Defense would be the only argument against.

ya, ur right. I originally built from PG out, trying to take the team approach first, but you really need to just start w/ Curry and go from there.

Team 2 is better

You could have a 5 other than Duncan but the communication and switching between Bron/KG/Duncan would be amazeballs. Duncan is the defensive fulcrum.

Bron and Curry could play a 2 man game offense surrounded by intelligent team first GOATs who would just be screening and cutting left and right, getting offensive boards. The other 3 are better on the defensive side but AS worthy on the offensive end as well. It's not Mutombo and Bruce Bowen.

Would Curry Curry Kawhi LBJ Duncan be too vulnerable defensively?

Duncan and Kawhi being worthy of being on the GOAT team goes right along w/ SA's performance (obv w/ Timmay old as dirt) co-existing in the same reality as the GOAT NBA team centered around Steph.

The fact that Bron's Cleveland is there as the #3 team reminds me of Willy Mays/Mickey Mantle/Duke Snider all being the CF's in NY baseball at the same time.

are you intentionally listing Curry twice?

my team that I was referencing was Curry/Kawhi/Bron/KG/Duncan

that team is that exact opposite of vulnerable defensively

curry/mj/durant/kawhi with a center of (robinson/hakeem/kareem) is the answer for the perfect team. lebron and Mj are too repetitive

Yea I listed Curry twice on purpose if you could clone people. I think tut once said Jordan Jordan LBJ Rodman Shaq in the old days.

guard defense is by far the least important so no, that would be fine. Prbly want KG to be safe though. Curry/Curry/Bron is redundant. Just let Thing 1 and Thing 2 do their thing.

Most possessions, Curry stands in the corner doing nothing and shoots when Lebron passes to him.

When it's Curry's turn to create, the D leaves Lebron open to clank a three.

Durant Kiwi Lebron is your 2-4 on any goat teams
Who you PG and Center are gets interesting
I'd go cp3 at PG, his defensive ability is a big deal

not sure at center but really just want the best defensive one that isn't slow and rolls and finishes at the basket well
Young Shaq ? Hakeem? Orlando dwight ?

Certainly not tough enough to create shots back then. He'd just be Joe Dumars if he were playing in the 90s.
