wins above replacement

this probably won't make a ton of sense to you if you don't know what war is but here is a fairly simple explanation of how to calculate war:

http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/inde...calculate_war/

if you scroll down to the bottom of this article there are links to a 14 part in-depth series explaining how fangraphs calculates their version of war, commonly referred to as fwar (which prob won't make much sense to you either):

phildo, i didnt click that but i believe you actually made an attempt to help somebody who [I]might[I] be ignorant to a subject. Thats awesome and i wish more people in the baseball threads would do that. I've learned a lot here to be honest.

Trout and Harper basically have the same numbers/isos/k rate but Trout has a much higher BABIP. Harper also a year younger and more power potential. Trout is really awesome though

What's the comparision between Trout/Harper vs Jeter/A-Rod at the same age?

Are these 2 guys going to be the face of baseball for the next 20 years?

Trout is a few runs more valuable on bases and like 20 over the course of season in the field. Also much higher OBP (even longterm without this BABIP)

I propose a career war bet. Being the homer that I am, I'll take Upton. I'll also escrow. Takers?

of course upton is favored in a career war bet. he's a dog to worth more war than trout in the future though.

well if you look at his minor league and career numbers trouts had a consistently high babip and hes also sporting a healthy 25% LD rate, so i dont think hes just getting super lucky right now as you seem to be implying.

some guys (super fast ones like ichiro and the aforementioned austin jackson for example) just have naturally high babips cus they beat out so many balls.

fwiw heyward and stanton are both younger and better than upton as well.

name/age/career wrc+

upton 24 117
hewyard 22 121
stanton 22 132
trout 20 139

tough call here imo

every day your trout ≈ harper comp gets a little bit more ridiculous

Wow, an Angels thread! Cool.

Trout is ridiculous. I hope he doesn't regress as much as Wally Joyner did after his rookie season.
