I don't see that making a lot of sense. Fines, suspensions, draft picks and all of that are on the table and we'll probably see some combination of the three.
But they're not going to completely suspend a team from the playoffs, that would tell every player and fan it's a complete waste of time. And they're not going to demolish the Superdome or execute Drew Brees (I asked).

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program
So reading on espn they awarded $1,500 for a knockout, $1,000 for a cart off. And was reported that vilma offered $10K to anyone who took Brett Farve out of the 2009 NFCCG.
Saints are gonna lose alot here imo.

He won't do that directly IMO. And he won't have to; he can impose enough penalties on the franchise that would make it very unlikely for them to make the playoffs for a couple of years--or longer.
And it's hard to envision anyone (owners or anyone else) trying to influence Goodell not to do just that. If I were the owner of another team and someone was breaking the rules trying to injure my best and highest paid players, I'd be demanding someone's head.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program
Saints should lose this years franchise tag so they lose drew brees unless they pay up now.
they already traded their first rounder for this year, so that isn't available for forfeiture.

As a HUGE Saints fan, this depresses me. I was already gonna be sweating this Brees contract issue all weekend, and now we are hit with this. The punishments will be deserving, however. I am highly disappointed that Payton and Loomis did nothing to stop this. I've always viewed the Saints in high regards, but maybe I was blinded by being a hometown fan. Regardless, I will continue to root for them.
If Loomis keeps his job, I don't think the Saints losing first round draft picks will send us back into the dark ages. Loomis does a great job at finding late round and undrafted talent.
Calling the Superbowl run fraudulent is laughable, especially considering other teams probably do something similar. Our defense wasn't spectacular that year anyways; we just created an insane amount of turnovers.
One regret I have is that Gregg Williams went elsewhere; I wish the Saints organization had the luxury of firing him right now.

of course other teams do it, but that's immaterial because they didn't get caught.
This is about coaches and a front office that was complicit in scheme whose intent was to deliberately injure players
nothing about the superbowl run was fraudulent, and anyone who suggests so is out of their mind.
suspend payton for a few games, suspend vilma, take a few picks away. seems fair to me.
it's a shame because Brees is not 28 anymore.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program
Saints might end up with less 2012 draft picks than the Raiders.

Not just that, but this was blatantly obvious. I remember watching the NFC championship game in Vegas. My friend is the biggest Favre hater ever. I'm pretty sure he'd try to pick a fight with the man in real life given the opportunity. Even he was blown away by what the Saints were doing on the field. Now that it's been confirmed, the penalties should be stiff.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program
I seriously doubt that Kurt Warner's career was ended by that hit. Maybe it factored into his decision, but I don't know why everyone wants to say that was why his career was ended. If he was seriously injured, he wouldn't have been back in the second half.

He was rumored to have wanted to retire numerous times before that season and he did have a history of concussions before that one.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program
i feel like the nfl has to come down harder than what some people like clayton are suggesting (750k in fines loss of 2nd this year and 1st next year).. i think the saints are screwed by the timing of this just as much as the incident.. we're coming off a year where we saw the first suspension for frequent hard/late/illegal hits.. former nfl players are currently suing the nfl for lack of player safety, and Goddell has made it his personal mantra to increase safety.. Also concussions and injuries are even more in the forefront than before..
im not sure what the exact penalty will be, and im sure there are other teams doing it, but in my mind it should cost some management/coaches their jobs.. does the nfl have a due clause rule or whatever the rule is that they slapped tressel with? like a team has to jump through a ton of hoops before signing a coach/management position.. i think that should be applied to williams definitely and possibly peyton/saints gm if indeed they did know about it and ignored it..
