Not great evidence, but the NFLPA "explanations" are ridiculous and make them look desperate.

Quote:
GW used the above slide as a tool to teach by using popular culture to draw players in. It gave players a point of reference that they were familiar with. Unfortunately, "Dog the Bounty Hunter" was a poorly chosen and ironic example to use but life plays havoc on us at times.
Seriously.

seriously are nfl players this stupid? shutting up and letting this ride out while at the worst appear somewhat remorseful is like 9999x better for your character than to constantly open your fat mouth needlessly to deny deny and to bitch about how your integrity as a man has been violated.
So just to be clear, if you are ever wrongfully accused of something, your stance is going to be "shut up and take the punishment because authority knows best"?

edit: No matter what you think of the case, the people involved clearly think they're not guilty, but you expect them to just roll over and accept punishment for something they think they didn't do when they can't even see the evidence against them? What a ****ing stupid conclusion.

Working in Hargrove's favor is that the "Bobby give me my money" line came after a play where Bobby McCray and Remi Ayodele both hit Favre.

you think at this point Goodell is going to renege on the suspension timing?

Hargrove is going all or nothing vs deciding to repent in Goodell's eyes and then getting his games kicked from 8-4 or better?

seems like horribad advice you're giving him

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program - Pair of Pliers and a Blowtorch

So it sounds like what you're saying is that Goodell has such unilateral authority that fighting him can only lead to worse punishment because he decides everything anyway. That's a pretty ****ed up system of justice and that system being so ****ed up is one of the things the Saints players are fighting over.

i would at least get together with everyone and get our story straight so we dont have some people saying "nothing ever happened i have no idea what youre talking about", some saying "yeah but that was all meant to be a joke", and some saying "yeah but it really isnt a big deal"

I don't think Goodell would think very highly of the players meeting with the suspended coaches, if that's what you mean. The players have been fairly uniform.

Lol Goodell?

Quote:
Though the NFL’s in-house appeal process doesn’t amount to a full-blown legal proceeding, the players accused of participating in the Saints’ bounty program could escape responsibility on the same basis that plenty of criminal defendants do.

By relying on a technicality.

As Article 46 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement goes, there aren’t many technicalities in the appeal process. Here’s one of them, from Article 46, Section (f)(ii): “In appeals under Section 1(a), the parties shall exchange copies of any exhibits upon which they intend to rely no later than three (3) calendar days prior to the hearing. Failure to timely provide any intended exhibit shall preclude its introduction at the hearing.”

Key language: Failure to timely provide any intended exhibit shall preclude its introduction at the hearing.

Key word: Shall.

As every law student learns when studying “civil procedure” (i.e., the rules for litigating cases), the word “shall” always should (or, I suppose, “shall”) be regarded as a red flag. It conveys a mandatory requirement. No discretion. No exceptions. No wiggle room.

Here, failure to deliver the exhibits on time “shall” prevent them from being used at the hearing.

Commissioner Roger Goodell previously scheduled the hearing in the bounty case for 10:00 a.m. ET on Monday, June 18. The NFL delivered its packet of 16 exhibits to the NFLPA at roughly 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 15.

If only there was some sort of collective bargaining done in the recent past where the union could have negotiated a fairer system.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program - Pair of Pliers and a Blowtorch

Update:

The NFLPA has formally asked the NFL to start the bounty investigation over from scratch.

Quote:
The letter calls the investigation “unprofessional, unsubstantiated and incomplete.” [DeMaurice] Smith also points to witnesses who have “clearly and publicly stated that the NFL grossly mischaracterized the information they provided to NFL investigators and knowingly misrepresented the facts surrounding this investigation.”
This comes a day after Joe Vitt questioned the accuracy of the evidence released, going so far as to say "It looks like that document has been falsified or tampered with."

Not really unexpected, but such a cop out. Goodell gets to say "Look, here's the stuff" and apologists get to say "Naw, it's all fake". Somebody hit somebody!
