Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

my guess on punishments:

williams: minimum 1 year suspension/fired by stl
payton: suspension of a couple games, fine of up to 1 mil
not sure what will happen with teh players. probably fined up the ass, possible suspension for vilma (make an example clause)
saints franchise: loss of multiple picks or loss of tags, be it franchise or transitional, 7 figure fine for benson

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

I'm putting 10k on the table for someone to "knock out" valenzuela in this thread.

The Saints are so ****ed.

I'm betting on the 50k pages to be referencing the amount of documents they went over, not the actual report.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

I wouldn't be shocked at a multi-year suspension or even a ban for Williams.

I'd also guess that any player who contributed cash for a bounty to also be looking at a suspension.

Loss of draft picks is almost a given. The question is how many and for how far into the future.

Fines for players, coaches, and Loomis seem certain, with possible additional penalties.

Wasn't Valenzuela the same guy who argued until he was blue in the face that the Luis Suarez intentional handball in the WC QF vs. Ghana was one of the most unethical and unsportsmanlike travesties in the history of sports?

I think the NFL max for a fine is $500K. Also it would be pretty funny if the NFL took away this years franchise tag and Brees walked. Obviously the punishment would need to be handed out extremely quickly.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

Also, if the Saints violated cap rules, they could get some serious cap penalties. 2 or 3 first round picks, plus fines/suspensions for coaches or players involved. This could send them back into the paper bag era

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

Do we know the NFL would consider something like this as a payment contributing to a cap violation? Seems like that would've occurred to Payton or someone in management.

seems like it occurred to management if they told payton to stop it, and didn't occur to payton if he didn't

If you are the Saints, at least you got a Super Bowl out of it and prob still have Brees. Howevahhh, LOL at the Redskins if they get a legit punishment for this, nightmare never ends.
