mmm...no? I did feel very very sorry for Ghana, I felt that it was unfair for Ghana, I was tilted because I was on the Ghana bandwagon, I was jealous because Uruguay made the semis and we didnt so I probably wrote a lots of posts bitching about it but ultimately Suarez made a perfectly legal move.

not sure what will happen with teh players. probably fined up the ass, possible suspension for vilma (make an example clause)
saints franchise: loss of multiple picks or loss of tags, be it franchise or transitional, 7 figure fine for benson

If Payton's fined, or anyone else is fined, the owner can obviously pay it correct? Gotta assume no way did Bellichick shell out 500k for spygate.

Nothing will happen, FedEx is closed on Sundays so they weren't able to ship the checks.

Snyder already strips himself of draft picks

who knows. coaches don't usually get fined that much though, so i would think in that instance he still had to pay it

I'm just hoping that someone shows up at the Saints' home opener in a Boba Fett helmet for some great trolling opportunities.

It seems like this would still be a huge deal even without the money. Like if the players were simply being instructed to try and injure other players and handed out gold stars or whatever whenever they laid a nasty hit on an opposing QB, or two gold stars if they knocked him out of the game. The money seems almost inconsequential given the NFL's recent focus on safety.

God damn Patriots gonna lose another 1st round pick due to a scandal as they have the saints 1st round pick this year. Ok I obviously know that this wont happen.

Im sure this is common in alot if not most teams. Wasnt there even reports of the giants being told to about the 49ers kick returner in nfccg having concussion problems and to hit him hard and get him outta the game. This saints scandal is much worse and it happens to fall at a time when player safety is pretty much the number 1 focus of the league, and i well believe the reports that they will get harsher penalties than the patrtiots did.

The question now is do they investigate every team or just give everyone a clean slate and warn them not to do it.

Would be huge if the skins end up losing their first rounder this year. But if they are involved they should lose one at least. I think 3 1sts would be a good punishment plus fine and suspensions of all those involved.

Bellichick did pay his 500k fine by all accounts. Of course he also signed an extension with the Patriots very shortly thereafter and he got a handsome signing bonus from Kraft.

Spoiler:
It's was 500k

If they took this year's first rounder that the pats have that actually might top the hilarity that would result from Brees leaving.

It should be a fair assertion and fair to question if other teams do this. I would bet money the Saints aren't the only team doing something similar to this. They just sucked at covering it up I guess. Even though other teams probably do something similar, someone has to be the scapegoat.

As a HUGE Saints fan, this depresses me. I was already gonna be sweating this Brees contract issue all weekend, and now we are hit with this. The punishments will be deserving, however. I am highly disappointed that Payton and Loomis did nothing to stop this. I've always viewed the Saints in high regards, but maybe I was blinded by being a hometown fan. Regardless, I will continue to root for them.

If Loomis keeps his job, I don't think the Saints losing first round draft picks will send us back into the dark ages. Loomis does a great job at finding late round and undrafted talent.

Calling the Superbowl run fraudulent is laughable, especially considering other teams probably do something similar. Our defense wasn't spectacular that year anyways; we just created an insane amount of turnovers.

One regret I have is that Gregg Williams went elsewhere; I wish the Saints organization had the luxury of firing him right now.

ending kurt warner's career is a lot moar pathetic than an acceptance of a superbowl fraud

Does anyone think that the commish takes radical steps here, like banning the Saints from post season play for a year or two?

As for the Spygate comparison, I would think this is on a completely different level. No one was hurt as a result of Spygate. The purpose of the Bounty program was to injury people, in a league that is trying to clean up its safety record. Herr Roger has to go stiff here no?

I don't see that making a lot of sense. Fines, suspensions, draft picks and all of that are on the table and we'll probably see some combination of the three.

But they're not going to completely suspend a team from the playoffs, that would tell every player and fan it's a complete waste of time. And they're not going to demolish the Superdome or execute Drew Brees (I asked).

So reading on espn they awarded $1,500 for a knockout, $1,000 for a cart off. And was reported that vilma offered $10K to anyone who took Brett Farve out of the 2009 NFCCG.

Saints are gonna lose alot here imo.

He won't do that directly IMO. And he won't have to; he can impose enough penalties on the franchise that would make it very unlikely for them to make the playoffs for a couple of years--or longer.

And it's hard to envision anyone (owners or anyone else) trying to influence Goodell not to do just that. If I were the owner of another team and someone was breaking the rules trying to injure my best and highest paid players, I'd be demanding someone's head.

Saints should lose this years franchise tag so they lose drew brees unless they pay up now.

they already traded their first rounder for this year, so that isn't available for forfeiture.

of course other teams do it, but that's immaterial because they didn't get caught.

This is about coaches and a front office that was complicit in scheme
whose intent was to deliberately injure players

nothing about the superbowl run was fraudulent, and anyone who suggests so is out of their mind.

suspend payton for a few games, suspend vilma, take a few picks away. seems fair to me.

it's a shame because Brees is not 28 anymore.
