It's actually a violation of the CBA to offer outside-of-contract bonuses like this.

It would also benefit an NHL team to try seriously injuring an opposing star goaltender in game 1 of a 7 game series, but that would be insanely unethical and probably lead to the entire coaching staff never working in the NHL again.

The Washington Redskins had a bounty system for big hits on opponents under former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams that was similar to the one revealed by an NFL investigation of the New Orleans Saints, four players who played under Williams said Friday.

Three of the players described a coach who doled out thousands of dollars to Redskins defenders who measured up to Williams’s scoring system for rugged play, including “kill shots” that knocked opposing teams’stars out of a game.

yes the entire point of sports is to intentionally injure other players

how fun would soccer be if from the first minute some defender broke the other teams strikers leg? then there would only be like 1 or 2 goals in a game.

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

"50,000-page investigation" has to be a misunderstanding.

50,000 word document, as ba said;

or 50,000 pages of possibly relevant documents were recovered in the investigation

The write-up is definitely not 50,000 pages long (lol).

Re: New Orleans Saints Bounty Program

I hardly think this is unique at all but, like Spygate, somebody's going to get caught and be made an example of.

The league has no options here but to basically hammer the Saints on this, else there's no way they can even bother claiming that they value player safety. Pucker up Saints fans this will probably hurt.

As far as Gregg Williams he might get a year off, Payton maybe a huge fine.

But its absolutely legal to hit the other QB or are we talking about a vicious late tackle?

There would be plenty of goals, even playing without Messi is worth playing against 10 men instead of 11 the entire game. The only way this can be worth is trying to injure the player in the lasts minutes of the first leg on a 2 legged.
But thats not the point, soccer is different, its against the rule to tackle the other players and hit him as hard as possible.
