It might be possible that Illinois normally is a top 10 job, but it's a bad spot now with the state of the Big Ten and how many good coaches are already there (abnormally high). Gotta compete with Izzo, Matta, Crean, Ryan, Belein every year now. Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan go back to historical averages, Illinois becomes a better job. Right now, a little more iffy. Much better to go to a place that's not quite as historically good but gives you a better shot to go on a run. Maybe somewhere like Arizona for example.

Which is why (other than a disappointing season this year) sean miller is in the perfect situation.

There are strong rumors Miller is having some early conversations about Illinois job. He's likely trying to strong-arm his own AD into giving basketball a little more as the Zona AD has been very football oriented of late.

As Seth Davis said last week, more talent comes out of Peoria alone than all of Arizona.

true, but finishing 6th gets one a NCAA and Illinois is willing to pay $2.2M as a starting point and up over $3M depending on the quality of the candidate. That would put the job about #7 overall in pay. For the right candidate, Illinois will match what Izzo is paid.

Even if Leonard leaves, there are still 6 top 100 RSCI players on the roster and commits from 2 more. 4 of these were freshman between 50-100 last year, who are often the type to not contribute much first year but come on strong.

Given how much Weber fouled up, the new HC is stepping into as much grace period as any coach would ever get for the amount of money Illinois is throwing out there.

Miller would be a great hire. Sucks smart didn't work out. For the betterment of the big 10, I think we need a few more coaches that are willing to press, run, run zone presses, whatever. Too bad mike Anderson went to Arkansas last year he would've been another solid land.

$21M for 8 years just offered to Brad Stevens

we'll see if it's enough

If that whole 90s scandal and lack of success at Providence didn't happen, I'd think keno Davis would be a good candidate.

An NCAA at a seed lower than they probably deserve and have a much harder road, then get scapegoated and basically have no future if they get fired. A top young guy would be taking a big risk coming to Illinois now. If he was older and basically if he wasn't successful and got fired, much less risky. But what successful older top tier coach isn't somewhere really good now? It's a much more limited field.

we see this all the time, but seriously if you are a D1 athlete or some similar level personality on a big campus, how the **** are you ever in a car with drugs to be in the position to get pulled over

on second thought after reflecting on my own dumb (but lucky) couple of times in cars when i was younger, i get it. the freedom that a car represents, and the feeling at that age living on campus of it being your only private property or whatever. but seriously, *someone* needs to be drilling it into these guys heads that a car is the worst possible option with respect to police danger
