Re: LOL Redskins

Either way you're getting the better deal, but if it's the latter AND rolls over it becomes a little closer.

Kinda

But the potential of Sanchez and RG3 are not alike at all, AFAICT. Sanchez was IIRC available at the 5th pick; no way that ever happens w/ someone who's considered an elite QB prospect.

Plus I wouldn't exactly say the Jets have been a failboat franchise since he got there.

Re: LOL Redskins

I'm a casual fan to be sure, but I'm actually fairly enthusiastic about this. I like RG3 quite a bit and have high hopes for him, and lord knows Washington needs a quarterback. I don't doubt that they're overpaying somewhat, but I'd be surprised if it's as bad as this thread is making it out to be. For all the LOLers, what do you think a reasonable price is here, especially since it seems like there were a couple of other teams interested in moving to that spot?

a month ago he was about an average #2 overall pick, maybe a tad bit higher. He has apparently shot up draft boards though.

I've been reading some Redskins message boards, and the question was "Why do this so early?"....apparently many people believe that if teams saw RGIII in more drills/interviews/etc. that the price would've skyrocketed even higher. Of course these are anonymous internet posters saying this, so take it fwiw.

Re: LOL Redskins

Can't wait until the Luck falls into the Skins lap when the Colts pull the trigger on RG3.

Man, that would be storybook.

How the hell did you get Shanahan to make this bet with you?

RG3 killed the combine. His stock shot up tremendously. Commentators were basically saying that only the presence of an all-time prospect like Luck makes RG3 a #2 pick. He'd be a #1 pick in almost any other year.

I thought it would be like 2 firsts and 2 seconds. I guess this isn't completely insane then. But that's a lot of damn picks.

What do you think the right price was? I mean, Julio Jones went for 2 firsts and a second iirc just last year. It can't be too crazy.

Yeah, this is part of why I like this. Of course there's risk in it. But it seems to me that drafting a similarly regarded prospect in the next couple years is likely to involve reasonably expensive (though not this expensive) trading up anyway, and it doesn't seem like there are that many great free agent options. The Rams of course make out very well in this trade, but I don't think it's a zero sum deal.

EDIT: And I'd still like to see concrete suggestions about what a reasonable price would have been.

I think most people are arguing that occasionally, you have to let the other guy overpay.
