Sorry I couldn’t get around to starting it this year, but it’s fitting that you stepped up.
I need to keep my streak alive of only giving out winners, especially at WR (look it up, I gave out Justin Jefferson and Chris Olave).
This year my favorite WR is Jalin Hyatt. I’m not saying he’ll be the best WR in this class (though he might be), but I am saying he’s gonna be a hit. Most pundits have him as WR4 - WR8 or so…. Fringe-first round or a day 2 pick.
All he did at Tennessee was run go routes outside the numbers and win jump balls. Over and over and over again. He’s got the speed to get open deep, and the ball skills to come down with contested catches.
A lot of pundits have Jaxon Smith-Njigba from Ohio State as the first WR off the board. I think he’s overrated, and the hype has gone out of control. I don’t mean to downplay his productivity in college, which was significant. I’m just pointing out he’s strictly a slot WR at this point, and needs to go to the perfect situation to flourish at the next level.
A team like the Giants, who desperately need WR help, would be quite stupid to take JSN. They already have 3 or 4 smaller, shiftier slot guys, and they badly need someone who can win on the outside.
Appreciate it! Figured I'd enjoy having the #1 pick this year.
I think the problem with Hyatt is that, like you said, all he did was run go routes. His game is one-dimensional. Having a field stretcher is great, especially with how fast today's game is played, but ceiling is someone like Tedd Ginn Jr. Hyatt was also not impactful at all his first two seasons in Tenn. I'm pretty low on Hyatt.
I love JSN. I think he's going to be a rockstar and he can do more than just play the slot, imo. He outperformed both Wilson and Olave when they were all on the same field.
I'm really not sure what to think of Quentin Johnston, but his style of play seems better for what the Giants need. He just seems really raw.
