Booyah, Toms River through to the LLWS, first NJ team since Toms River did it in 98 and 99.

Todd Frazier from the 98-99 teams is now a legit prospect for the Reds.

There are lots of other tournaments out there of course. But most are very poorly attended and just aren't big deals at all even if they are stocked with prospects. Some of them get televised on MLB Network or some of the Fox Regional Channels, etc. ESPN3.com was also streaming some of these events.

A lot of it is about the location and the enthusiasm for it in the area. As well as that regional stuff involving the teams and the tradition, etc. I would rather watch the CWS in Omaha than a college all-stars prospects-only tournament.

I know of a different tournament for late teens (AAABA tournament in Johnstown, PA) where the quality of play is decent but certainly isn't jammed with the best prospects in the country or anything. And there's no TV coverage. But it's an annual tradition in the town that hosts it and they have a sellout for the opening night of the tournament. The excitement of the community and the tradition of the tourney makes it a worthwhile event that is probably a shade or two lower than the LLWS.

I wonder if its still cool to brag about winning the LLWS?

I'm in Pearland and my son plays LL here. He's nine. So I'm pumped to watch this even though I don't know any of the kids. I missed the regional final but I've heard we look strong. One thing I need to find out is whether this was a split team. We have 2 divisions of 8 teams in each age group. And we have two all star teams. Not like an A and B team, but split depending on what division you play in. I've been told that this always holds us back as we move deep into all stars and play against larger leagues. It's a great accomplishment either way, but I wonder if this was an all-star team from only half of our player pool that has made it this far.

Game of shadows IMO.

These kids put on weight and even height at a ridiculously alarming rate.

Needs strict drug testing.

If my memory serves me right, the BC squads (usually from Whalley, Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Coquitlam, etc.) always seem to perform very well at the national tournament and end up as Canada's representative at the LLWS.

But to be honest, I don't remember a particular year (even one with the teams were anchored by people like Adam Loewen, or Jeff Duda) where the Canadians have gone deep into the playoff round of the LLWS, or even an instance where they've made it out of their round-robin group.

i think they have a chance out of the round robin group this time. their first game is the biggest one though. i'm assuming they'll beat saudi arabia and lose to chinese taipei, so it will be between them and panama to advance really, which is their first game.

Anywhere with lines other than 5dimes? They only have individual games, which is great, but I'd like to see outright winner lines too. Thanks.

I watched a little bit of the Germany v. Puerto Rico game last night. What a joke. The Puerto Ricans were hitting HRs on check swings and pop-ups. The size differential between players is ridiculous-- 4'6" 75 lbs ---> 6' 175. If you're 6' and not hitting a home run on every swing, you suck.

Canada kicks off their tournament today at 1:00pm against Panama... looks like the game will be televised on TSN2 for all those who are interested.

WTF at the mandatory play rule.

I know this isn't like cut throat high level sports play and the whole point of most youth sports is fun, but like this clearly isn't some local youth league t ball thing.

Maybe I'm just totally missing the point but this seems like a really crappy message to send to the kids.

If I were a kid and got cycled through the mandatory play and then immediately benched I'd feel like a total liability and anchor and way more foolish than had I just sat in reserve.

cotton,

the dead weight on the team doesn't make it to williamsport, most of these teams have 11 players

Yeah, the announcers mentioned that because of the rule they try to keep the rosters super trim and all it does it cost kids a chance to go.

If you weren't required to play a kid you could still have him on the team and he'd get to enjoy the experience and all.

Hah, the S.A. assistant coach calling out his head coach for fist pumping after he got the challenge right. Maybe he forgot they're down 8-0 in the 2nd.

Entire challenge system including umpires getting together to talk about it before going to the video: Less than 1 minute. But ZOMG in the MLB it will take 83 minutes to challenge each play and games will take longer to finish than cricket games!!

It amuses me how 3/4ths of Canada's infield doesn't even look like they're Canadian.

They did play a very good game defensively to beat Panama. Now, if Chinese Taipei is as good as people have been hyping them to be (and if their 18-0 whitewash of Saudi Arabia is a good indicator), Canada will likely have to win the rematch against Panama if they hope to advance.
