I don't think either has come out and said so but I've paid attention to their musings over the years, as anytime a huge name in golf talks about another huge name in golf, you are apt to listen.
Phil was fairly noticeably butthurt at last year's PGA, especially the way it finished. He complained that Rory's group (Rory and Burnt Cheeseburger) finished 18 with him and Rickie. Of course Rory was trying to hurry up and get his 2nd Wannamaker before it was too dark, which seems normal. But Phil was pretty clearly not happy with them joining up. He thought they were just going to tee off then let Phil and Rickie finish up, since it was a par 5.
After Rory won, they asked Phil about him and he basically gave a snide "He's better'n any of us right now." and that's about it. No elaboration at all. Phil typically isn't this curt.
In the 2012 Ryder Cup, Rory slept in (lol), then got a police escort to the course at Medinah and proceeded to destroy Phil's partner Keegan Bradley 3&2 or something. At the 2014 Ryder Cup, they asked Phil about his team's chemistry before the contest (pretty lol answer in hindsight), and he said that they don't sue eachother. A very thinly veiled allusion to Rory's lawsuit against G-Mac's agent or sports management company or whatever the hell it was. They asked Rory about it and I can't remember what he said. I don't think he cared much. The hate seems to stem way more from Phil than it does from Rory. Rory sped to 4 majors way sooner than Phil did.
Phil saying that about team chemistry before the contest ended up being funny because the chemistry between Tom Watson and the US team was astronomically low, while Europe had a lot of fun and rolled to victory.
I like both players, though. But can't help but notice there seems to be more than a little bit of tension between them.
