Perhaps hard way isn't the correct terminology. Sure, the hard way is through Q-school and/or Monday qualifying. He took the Puerto Rico sponsor's exemption and through excellent play alone gained his tour card. And in doing so showed that his exemptions were justified. We know I detest exemptions that are light-years from justified.

Not that it matters much because your point was that he earned his card quickly once he had exemptions (and I realize this and agree - he obviously belonged on Tour) but his third event, not second, was the one he did well enough in to get himself into his 4th event (where he earned enough to get his temporary card or whatever). You are forgetting he played Pebble in between. Another link to read, which mentions that he was also getting Web.com exemptions (which could have helped lead him ultimately to his Tour card). Rory rolled today to his 10th PGA Tour win, the WGC - Cadillac Match Play Championship, beating head to head Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker, Billy Horschel (great match - playoffs), Hideki Matsuyama, Paul Casey (great match - playoff), Jim Furyk, and Gary Woodland. BEAST.

Finishing birdie birdie birdie eagle in the furyk match was pretty great

Furyk just wouldn't go away. He played great and would have deserved to win. I had a feeling if Rory got to 16 tied or 1 down he could win. His match against Horschel was also top notch, especially if you knew their history. Both guys played great and showed great class. Rory's path to the final seemed considerably tougher than Woodland's.

Just want to point out (again) that by time Jack was 50 he had designed almost 50 golf courses (he's now well over 100) and by all accounts he was a very hands on designer due to his prideful nature. The money for playing just wasn't there and like Arnie other business interests took precedent over playing. In a hundred years his legacy will be kept alive with his course design by a much higher margin than it is now.

Should be a great week. I think Rory used to skip this event because that fat weirdo manager of his tried to make all Euros skip it but he finally realized it was an elite event that needs to be won so he plays it now, thank God. Spieth played really well here last year. The winner will almost undoubtedly be an elite golfer, or a very good golfer playing some of the best golf in his career. I got Jaguars mascot Jackson de Vil at 440-1.

Used to be the sole largest purse on tour. Now it's tied for the largest purse. Last year, the PGA increased it's purse to match it. This year, the Masters did as well--$1.8 million to the winner.

Of course, the FedEx Cup winner gets $10M, but the PGA Tour doesn't count that as official winnings.

Pinnacle has Rory at +745, Speith at +779, and no one else below +2000.

I think he's still going to be World Number One after this week. Probably a bad idea of Spieth to mention his goal of WNO in every presser since The Masters, like it was imminent or something. Think Rory decided to drop some alpha swag. The gap is widening quickly.

No. Most golf tournaments aren't considered "majors". But for some reason people still play in them.

Lol, I probably deserve that. I try to save it for the Tiger Woods thread, though. Here, I'll just admit that Rory has all the potential in the world to be a top 10 or even top 5 golfer of all-time.
