Am I dumb for thinking that PSU is a sleeping giant being held back by JoePa? Do PSU fans find this blasphemous?

I know this isn't the right season to say it since they won the Big 11 and all, but I think that this program should be much better than it has been the past decade. 4 losing seasons in the past 10. Some mediocre-good seasons and two very good seasons. And I think the whole Paterno recruiting thing is close to a myth. Yes, I'm sure there are lots of guys on that team that went there because of JoePa. There is also lot's of guys from PA on OSU or other big programs who didn't go there because of JoePa.

I just think if you put a more motivated, younger coach in there PSU could be scary good again. Same thing x2 for FSU.

If it was really so easy for him to get up and down to the locker room and move around to a golf-cart, etc then wouldn't he have been down on the sidelines for the game in the first place? Obviously the dude was in pain and moving around wasn't terribly easy. And he also understood that the team didn't freaking need him there at halftime.

He likely determined that "the old guy who couldn't walk who is the legendary coach of the team" would just be a distraction for the guys there who were trying to get together and make their adjustments for the 2nd half.

I think it would have been way stupider for him to think, "I'm so important that I better gimp down there and have everyone notice my arrival and then I'll give 'em all a good ol' speech of 'Hey, we're down about 70-7 but lets make some adjustments and turn it around because I believe in you and I know we can do it!! Yay Team!!!!!'"

I don't know. I think the untold story of that game was how hard PSU fought after they clearly were midstream in getting their asses kicked. I'm a pac10 homer, but I thought they showed great character. That was a good football team. Yes it reflects on the kids, but it also reflects on the coaching-- and I'm going to give some credit to JoePa, the man at the helm.

just look at penn state hoops. absolutely horrible. im sure there are some great basketballers in pa. and they are not going to penn state.

I think it was vs UW or WSU that he went for it on 4th down, and that was more "here, you have a chance to stop us instead of us just kicking a FG and picking up a meaningless 3 points, plus this helps get the game over faster." Plus they called some sweep on like 4th and 6.

If you've got your backups in, I don't see why you shouldn't let them run the full offense.
