Loved how they spent so much time on the Italian swimmer who stole the boyfriend of the French swimmer. Only to have the French swimmer finish dead last. The Italian was out of the medals also.

That said, the other networks have been pretty free of human interest stories. Or maybe I'm just lucky enough to have missed them.

Considering that you can watch pretty much any event you want on the different networks or on the internet (announcer free) I don't see what the big problem is.

Before I wanted them to stop with the feature stuff and just show the event. But that was when it was on only one channel. Now it's all over the place and I can just change the station or turn on the computer or whatever.

So they still do feature stories like that while ALSO giving you the option to just watch the games without all that stuff. Not bad.

I guess your options are more limited if you are super into the swimming and gymnastics which I assume they are keeping only on the main NBC and not letting you watch as much of without having to sit through the features. But it still is way better coverage than anything we ever had before.

I remember in 96 or 92 I wanted to watch the gold medal soccer match. But they were only showing it in brief snippets and then cutting over to some other ping-pong match. Since the U.S. wasn't involved and they had a ton of stuff going on still they weren't about to show a soccer match between two countries they felt nobody really cared about. They'll just show little bits of action and then get you there for the final score. When it was only one network THAT was really freaking common and incredibly annoying.

I'm satisfied to let them do their little feature pieces now that I get to see all these different games all over the place. Could still be improved. But it's currently about 1000x better than anything we ever had before.

you can watch a bunch of it at nbcolympics.com. it has condensed replays of the primetime broadcasts but also streaming live stuff without announcing.

I remember in the '92 Barcelona games (I think it was the '92 games) when they had the Red, White and Blue PPV channels.

And, if I remember correctly, they were the only other stations broadcasting olympic events other than NBC in the US.

The coverage has been awesome for these games and way, way better than those days.
