Lost and the Office are absolute must watch shows for me...like I must watch them live, reruns or waiting for the DVD just won't suffice. Otherwise, I could probably get by with just watching sports though.

Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
I guess I'm alone on Sandler then. I just think you could insert a ton of actors into any single role hes done and it'd be just as good. Do you guys have one performance in mind that "only he could've done" because I'm just not seeing it.
Its tough for me since we can't name undrafted actors, but take Jim Carrey...could anyone else have done Pet Detective without drastically changing the movie? I really can't think of anyone. And I just can't think of a single Sandler performance you can say that about.

One more line from Anger Management...
"What, do you think you're better than me, 'cause you got both your nuts?"

I thnk youre not getting his strengths.
He is a one man army...he does it all - and can do it all (if we were to start careers all over again). Like others have already mentioned - this guy is hardworking and has earned everything he has right now...which includes Happy Madison Studios.
He creates his own work...he creates characters...he creates scripts...he creates big money movies.

He writes almost all of his own vehicles. As an actor he is replaceable sure but that is not relevant.

How did Hawks make Bringing Up Baby, The Big Sleep AND Rio Bravo? This is unbelievable to me. No one has this much range. It's kind of ridiculous iyam.
|
What is also cool about Hawks is that how many actors/actresses had their best/defining performances with him. People like Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Unnamed Actress, Unnamed old school actor and another unnamed actor.
Heck, Hawks even did musicals, and Monroe singing Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend is like one of the most famous musical numbers ever.

The first feature-length movie originally presented as a talkie was The Jazz Singer, released in October 1927.
So, that's the cutoff.

Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
Round 4, Pick 18 (108 Overall)
William Holden
William Holden had a long and successful career making over 60 films from 1940 to 1981, despite missing four years for military dude. William Holden is an icon of the screen, being voted #25 in AFIs Top 50 Screen Legends. Holden is most famous for his dramas such as Sunset Blvd, Stalag 17, The Bridge On The River Kwai, and the Network. But Holden also worked successfully in comedic films such as Billy Wilder's Sabrina, and Paris – When it Sizzles. Not to mention his awesome turn in Sam Packinpah's super bad ass The Wild Bunch. With Holden we get another true dramatic star to pair with Brando; giving us a fantastic beginning to some truly epic dramas with, amazing star power and great acting ability, with Lumet at the helm, and even possibly penned by Allen.
Awards and Nominations
Best Actor
Nominated: Sunset Blvd (1951)
Won: Stalag 17 (1954) - when accepting his statue at the Acadamy Awards, simply stated, "Thank you" and walked off
Nominated: Network (1974)
Current Roster:
Marlon Brando
Woody Allen
Sidney Lumet
William Holden

This has nothing to do with your original argument which was his rise to stardom was based on luck.
But anyway, the performances that only he could have done were probably the ones who either wrote, or co-wrote, and performed on SNL. Or maybe his comedy/music CD?

Agreed.
The main point is there, that the performances he "wrote, co-wrote, or performed on SNL. Or maybe his comedy/music CD" is a vast majority of his work.
