Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
Can we use dead actors/actresses for this like in the NFL draft thread?

I think I know my movies so IN
And I like both routes basically. Whether Bobo's or the more "straightforward" untouchable brought up.
edit: or both of course. Wouldn't mind some tech categories either that might require some research

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
I'll only do an idea this ridiculous if it involves gambling. What if before the draft we choose 6 well-defined categories that involve no subjectivity to determine who wins them, such as most cumulative golden globes, most italians, most PETA members, etc, assign numbers to each category and then after the draft someone trustworthy rolls a die and the winner gets the purse.
Something small to avoid deterring people but large enough that the winner can buy something moderately baller and brag about it, like 20-50 per person.
My idea would also add to the depth of the game because you have to choose between locking up the PETA members or trying to chase golden globes.

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
I think part of the fun will be drafting open categories and determining yourself whether its a funny man etc;...itll reward drafting diversity
if someone wants to draft 8 italian crime drama actors we should let them since its an obvious fail...i think there is more strat involved in leaving the categories open

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
One thing I really do think needs to be stressed in this draft is your writeups. Even more so than in the NFL and NBA draft, writeups are going to be the backbone of this draft. I mentioned samjjones' name earlier because he had a fantastic series of posts a few years back called the Hollywood Hall of Fame, and that is the level that we should all aspire towards. For those who weren't around then, I'll post the link at the end of this post, and I strongly encourage everyone in this draft to read each one of his posts in that thread. If you don't have time, just skip to number one on his list, that is what we should all be striving towards.

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
This sounds fun, I would like to play.
I think categorizing each "team" is too difficult and it would be possible to do this without categories. It would be incumbent upon team owners to argue the relative merits of their draftees - for instance, I might argue that Harry Cohn has more overall value than a blue-chip director like Michael Mann or somebody. If we DO have categories I'd like some executive-type roster slot, or at least a wildcard, so that people like Don Simpson, Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, are in play.

I'd be in for this. Though honestly this sounds like it should go in the POG forum if anywhere,

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
I think a more open approach is better. I don't want to draft Hitchcock as my director and then have to pick a "funnyman" to work with him.

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
Im NOT in but I think the everyone should have to draft for certain movie rolls but also get some flex spaces for actors that dont quite fit one roll and can be universally moved around between the categories..8 rounds.
Example:
Comedy-
Action-
Romance-
Suspence-
?????-
Flux1-
Flux2-
Flux3-

While I do agree with what you're saying, I will be a nit and point out that Jimmy Stewart was known for his comedies (many of them screwball) as well as his serious work.

Re: Official Hollywood Dynasty Draft, signup thread.
If we're drafting directors in non categories it should probably be more than one.
I really like the idea of drafting the best "old time" studio which definitely could be done with open categories but if not, I don't think it should be just a few actors or one single director.
In that case it could easily become closer to drafting one "best movie" instead of much broader best powerhouse studio.

Oh and I would be in this if money were involved. A good way to make sure people stick with it (myself included).
