Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
Ahhhhh. Most underrated movie of last year.
I got both on blue ray in the summer and haven't rewatched them yet, so I suppose your point on not wanting to watch them again is pretty spot on.
I do feel like they will be films that I'll watch multiple times over the next few years though. I saw TWBB three times last year.

Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
I have my pick, just working on the writeup. I'm pretty curious to see how it will be received.

I can get why TAoJJbtCRF isn't for everyone. It's a slow developing character study. But it's very similar to TWBB in that regard so anyone who liked TWBB I have to imagine will at least appreciate TAoJJbtCRF. I happen to think they are very close in merit and gun to my head slightly prefer TAoJJbtCRF because of UNNAMED SUPPORTING ACTOR's brilliant, believable, measured job as tCRF.

Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
I thought UNNAMED's performance in TWBB was the single best acting performance I had ever seen. As I sat in the theater I was completely enthralled, feeling as though I was witnessing something epic. I was sick that day too and not expecting anything of the sort when the film began.

Re: Hollywood Dynasty Draft Discussion
I need to rewatch TAoJJbtCRF, it very well could be better than TWBB. Right now I have them as 1 and 2 from last year. It would probably be a good time to watch them both for me since I saw them last year.
The mood and cinematography in JJ was incredible, and the supporting performance was even better.

+1.
It was a whole different level of acting than what we are used to seeing. "Powerhouse" is the best way to describe it imo.

I really need to watch this movie again. I agree on the performance, it was incredible. The problem is that the movie was purely a psychological exploration of the character, which is fine except I didn't know that going in. As a result, I spent the first two thirds of the movie not really paying attention to the things that actually mattered, because instead I was trying to follow the plot and figure out what was going to happen, where they were going to take things (which turned out to be a very secondary aspect of the film). By the time I figured out what was really going on on the screen, it was too late and I was lost.
I think if I go back and watch it again, knowing from the beginning what it is, that I'll love it. Definitely didn't love it the first time though.

I don't know if it was the best I've seen, but it's up there. I definitely had the same enthralling experience that Caldarooni had.

I kinda want to make this draft bigger. It's so deep.

All good points.
I can buy the lead performance in TWBB being a better pure acting performance than the supporting actor in TAoJJbtCRF. But man, it's close.
The supporting actor's character in TAoJJbtCRF was just more believable which may have been due to writing but I'm not dismissing the phenomenal acting job to bring that to life. I think that's why I slightly prefer TAoJJbtCRF - the characters were more real, rounded and human to me.
Also, I felt that TAoJJbtCRF really built through the movie and kept getting better. TWBB I think peaked a little too early and limped home a little bit. Perhaps I'm being influenced by some of the over-the-top moments in TWBB. Regardless, both are great movies and fascinating character studies.

I will give a nod to the TWBB performance, but the JJ performance was much more difficult to make great, so I couldn't really argue with someone saying it was the best performance of the year. They both took it to a level that very few good.
Are those the best two acting performances of the past 5 years? More? Less?
