There are only 4 medals for table tennis. Badminton has 5. China of course won all the golds and a few others.

Swimming on the other hand has 34. That doesn't include water polo or synchronized swimming or diving. Diving has 8. US has won 30 medals in swimming including 16 golds.

Medal ranking is obviously ordinal so I'd like to add that disclaimer.

I would also enjoy the USA saying no one can live and train in our country and then compete for another nation.
This is probably the dumbest statement ITT. Congratualtions.

If not caring about how many medals the Chinese win were an Olympic event, I WOULD TAKE THE GOLD!

are you serious? China won every badminton and table tennis gold? Those guys have some quick freaking hands! Watch your wallets when you're visiting China.

Because it's not a team ranking. It's counting medals and finding a reasonable weighting system to gauge a country's overall performance. And getting second and third isn't "losing." It's winning a silver and a bronze. You might wave off nongold medalists as losers, but the rules are that being top three is enough to be considered as having won something. If the only way to "win" is a gold medal, then you might as well sort by gold medals and forget the loser medals.

And it's fine to separate what the individual wants from what's better for an overall ranking. If my choice was between (1) an individual professional team from Chicago wins the championship but the other teams are mediocre and (2) all teams make it to championship but lose, I'd choose (1), but on a ranking of which city has the best sports teams, (2) would obviously win.

It would just be so great to have these events go on for 2 weeks and periodically check up on them. Like, you'd be watching live athletics, and in downtime they would pan in to these events to give you updates on who has been recently eliminated. Also, at night, during the dead hours, you would be able to watch live pole sitting or manhunt for 8 hours, instead of watching replays for 8 hours.

Whoever wins Olympic pole sitting would win the Olympics, imo.
They could ease into it by introducing this event first.

13.Taekwondo Women= US (china not competing)
14.Taekwondo Men= US (china not competing)
15.Wrestling= push

Saturday
China not competing in at least 17 events

Sunday
China not competing in at least 10 events.

China is not competing in about 38 Gold medal events by a quick browse. Some of the ones they are competing in are still heats, quarterfinals, semi finals. The ones listed for Friday, I wrote push if both sides simply had a participant in them not accounting for favorites.

So there are about 26 unaccounted for if your number is correct and those fields are not set yet from what the site was saying. It will be a lot clearer after tomorrow.
