Think Las Palmas are going to have to be by random La Liga team this year. Had no idea they had Kevin Prince Boateng and former Liverpool starlet* Nabil El-Zhar!

Last edited by LFC_USA; 08-22-2016 at 05:44 PM. Reason: may or may not have actually been a starlet

i wonder how often you dont win a game like that. still also kinda their own fault for not starting more attacking players in a home game against a newly promoted team.

I really don't get peoples's problem with the RB teams.
Quote

no one wants to admit that their team is backed by corporate $ either, I guess
Quote

That corporate money comes in because a club has significance in society though, so it's tied to the number of fans they have

RB was founded soley as a marketing ploy and they have unlimited resources

If you can't understand why people get angry when their club, which is basically backed by the community, gets replaced by a play toy of a single billionaire, you may be socially ******ed

you don't think that RB is in it for the long haul in the city of leipzig?

its lolgermans, they get it into their head that they must uphold all these weird 'moral' standards and that leads to odd outcomes

'no corporate money in football!'
'why?'
'because!'

I don't know the full story behind this purchases so I will refrain myself from socially ******ing back at you.

Anyway, I could totally see why THEIR fans could be angry if they see their beloved team losing it's history/meaning/soul/whatever.
But I most definitely don't get why other teams' fans would be angry.

Also, I didn't know Leipzig was the new China even before China went full China.

Rich people like to play Football Manager in real life, that's how it is. If I had a Billion Euros to my name I would definitely make my local team my toy and people would love it.

sure, i get the criticism of RBL in the way it was created. but I do think they will end up being a net positive for the bundesliga.

I think they are, but still their raison d'être is advertisement, which ironically is probably a big reason why they aren't spending more money this season

Sorry, that remark was hyperbole for effect. The thing is, the "club" didn't have any fans that could get angry about losing their souls because they basically purchased the 7th division license of a club that went broke which is a legally dubious move in itself.

The basic reason for the hate is probably selfishness and feeling threatened; Hoffenheim for example used to be widely hated because everyone expected them to go to the top. Now that it's evident that they're happy just being mediocre, fans of the big teams still have some dislike but really don't care, while fans of smaller teams who were displaced in the bundesliga still hate their guts.

The last point is significant: there's a lot of teams with large fanbases in the second division who are frustrated because they feel they're not competing on a level playing field financially. This is where it matters if you care about where the money comes from. Some clubs get it by selling out their stadium and having regional or national pull, some because t a billionaire happened to be born there.

To be fair, those fans don't just hate everyone north of them in the table, Augsburg or Darmstadt also aren't bigger clubs than Stuttgart or Nürnberg but people recognise that they're just acting smarter.

I'm not really radical on this at all, I find most of the "against modern football" stuff silly and am likely the only person in my 150k member club that would be open to sell some equity stake to investors. Talk to some guys and they're Liverpool level of insane, they basically think everyone playing for and even going to games is scum.

People will get used to it though. Wolfsburg and Leverkusen are basically the same and while they're still disliked and get mocked for having no fans, but there's no controversy about them. And eventually it's going to happen everywhere and then they'll be nothing special anymore

Ok, I see where they might be jealous if they see a team that used to be nothing going over their own.
Would it be better if they just bought out a team in the second division or even in the first?

Also, looking at their team I see that they have like 60% of German players (no idea if that's low or high in Germany, but it would be really high in Portugal) and most of them are really young. I guess they are doing work in this aspect, right? Not just buying out talent.

And it's Red Bull, not exactly a baby murdering company that people hate, they have teams everywhere in many different countries.
How would those Dynamo fans react if their team was bought?

I don't fully comprehend some of your German "fans" shenanigans because here it is mostly a 3 way competition in support all around the country with 2 other teams having a big local support in their city. The rest never fill out half their stadium if they are not playing one of the top 3. It's sad but it's our reality, I guess we are all born Glory Hunters.

no one is at ever competing at a "level playing field financially" that insane delusion is what leads to people being really angry for no good reason. The same logic applies to Chelsea/Man City/PSG.

I mean, they have Bayer in the name and the Bayer logo in their logo which is basically illegal. Plus they're marketing the werkself stuff. Not as heavily backed of course

Their footballing philosophy is definetly legit. Their coach Ralf Rangnick is probably my favourite manager in Germany (he's coached Schalke twice before, the second time sadly hat to quit because of burnout) and two of their players were starters for Germany's silver-winning u21 team. What doesn't go over well is stuff like buying one of those, striker Davie Selke, for 11 million from a really big Bundesliga club, Werder Bremen, when they were still in the second division. That's where the dislike of "unnatural" financial edges factors in. But going forward they'll have excellent opportunity to snag all the eastern german talent since they've been the only Bundesliga in the former DDR in a few years

^That is also the reason why blaming anyone who buys into RB is dumb, before they showed up Leipzig football was pretty much dominated by hooligans and Neo-Nazis with no club being able to go better than the 5th division. And that's in a city of 700k people.

To your question about straight buying a club, that can't happen here because a rule called 50+1 which basically states that a club's members must own at least 51% of the club. I support that rule in theory but it would never stand if challenged in a EU court and the authorities know it, so they have to make compromises. That has made the rule more or less toothless but you still gotta be more subtle.

Selke probably took a step up by taking a step down at the time

I agree but it's beside the point; A second division team financed by an all-mighty sponsor signing any player for 11 million, much less from the club that is still in 2nd place of the all-time bundesliga table, isn't going to go over with the public

The thing is that over here, if Vauxhall Motors actually had money put in from their obvious source from the get go and were an established league club as a result, nobody would care. If Toyota bought out a busto conference north side, moved them slightly and renamed them the Teesside Toyotas, and got into the premier league through imported millions, then people would lol at them more than they do at MK Dons

Very average stuff from Glubb on the weekend. Their development is certainly tits up now, but difficult to do anything about it when you're broke. I mean, getting to the 2nd round is deemed a success (and it is; not easy to win these away games as you can see from so many other 1st round fixtures) but when that's in terms of a financial success, it is worrying stuff for a team as big as Nuremberg.

Them being drawn to Viktoria Köln was optimal though, obviously. It's a nice ground, which only holds a few thousand spectators, within a wooded area just outside of Kalk. Apparently there's also a district called Höhenberg somewhere there also which the supporters just couldn't stop singing about.

Anyway, the guy who missed the penalty for Viktoria was the smallest player I've ever seen. Supposedly 1,64 m, and that seems like a bit of a stretch A bit of a shame, as he made quite some impact after being subbed on and is certainly a fine footballer.
