If they want to go to court, the case will most likely get filed and he wouldn't even have to pay a fine, but his and RM's image are way more important than a few million dollars for someone who will end his career with about a billion dollars, so they will most likely settle and pay the fine. This case is different to Messi, Di Maria or Mascherano's.
It's funny tho how people start talking about prison like 45 minutes after someone SUPPOSEDLY committed fraud.
For a supposed madridista you know less than **** about the club. The dude is guilty as hell and everyone knows that. This is part of the big effort to go after Mendes, and the club is lining up behind the government, because they're sick of Mendes too. Ronaldo's camp has filtered to the media that he wants to leave, and Florentino has filtered to the media that he's fed up with that sort blackmail, and Ronaldo can go play in Manchester for all he cares. Everyone knows that the threat to leave is an effort to get the club to pay his back taxes and fines, and they've already effectively communicated that he can go to hell.
There's nothing supposed about any of this. Half of the team and half of Barca has already plead out on similar cases involving similar set-ups. They took they're time with Ronaldo because he's the big one. Barca was sloppier, Rosell will really do time, because the club was in on the crap. Madrid is more professional, they worry more about the Madrid brand than the Ronaldo brand.
Florentino and co. have to worry about themselves. Big well connected guys who bought all sorts of access, guys like Villar Mir, are looking down the barrell of a gun right down because of their tie-ins to all sorts of higher level corruption. Florentino, who isn't immune to any of that, just more skilled, is far more worried about the well being of ACS, about rebuilding the Bernabeu, about building north of Chamartin, about all sorts of other stuff worth a lot more to him than Ronaldo. He's probably also tired of babying the guy, and in any case can't afford to appear soft on corruption/tax issues in the current climate.
Not going to prison? Former vice president Rodrigo Rato is headed to prison. The King's son-in-law is headed to prison. The former president of Madrid (the government) is IN prison. And there's more gonna join them. Sure, none of them will do as much time as they ought, some of them will wiggle out, but this dude is just a football player ...
