European Football 2017-18

Or Èüröpèän Føøtbẵll, if you want to go fancy.

Bundesliga:

Despite Bayern winning their fifth title in succession, it was quite an interesting season to watch: The rise of RB Leipzig, who took 2nd place and direct CL qualification in their debut season. Will they be able to challenge Bayern for the title this time around? Dortmund, which had a difficult season including a bomb attack, third place and a cup win, inexplicably parted ways with Thomas Tuchel due to internal problems. The future of Aubameyang is just as unclear as it was last time around, and it will be interesting to see how their new Bosz will handle the team.

At the bottom of the table, it looked like Werder Bremen was destined to go down, with just 16 points in mid-February. Then, they went unbeaten in 11 matches, gaining 29 of 33 possible points, and narrowly missed EL qualification after losing 3-4, 3-5, and 3-4 on the last three matchdays. Their rivals Hamburg avoided another relegation play-off on the last matchday, while Wolfsburg went on to play local rivals Braunschweig for the final spot in the league, and stayed in. Ingolstadt and Darmstadt went down after their second Bundesliga season and will be replaced by Stuttgart and Hannover, which went right back up after getting relegated in 2015/16.

La Liga:

It was the expected close battle all the way to the end in the Spanish league, with Real edging out Barca by 93 too 90 points in the end. Barca won the Copa Del Rey, beating underdog Alaves 3-1 in the final. There were not many surprises in the following places, with Atletico, Sevilla, Sociedad and Bilbao qualifying for European competition. The fight for relegation wasn't really close, and Gijon, Granada and Osasuna were relegated to Segunda Division. They will be replaced by Levante, debutants Girona and one play-off winner, determined between Getafe, Tenerife, Cadiz and Huesca.

Ligue 1:

Another title for PSG seemed just a formality, with odds of them winning the league at just 1/10. Butnaaaaah, they got embarassed by Monaco, who in the end were eight points ahead of PSG. And that wasn't even the worst part of the season. In the Champions League, they met Barca in the Round of 16, beating them 4-0 in their home leg. No way they could blow a 4-0 lead, even against Barca. Butnaaaaahh, Barca managed to win 6-1 in the return leg, the Camp Nou descended into utter madness, and the football world lost their collective **** laughing at PSG. Monaco also outlasted them in the CL, and Kylian Mbappe now being the hottest player in Europe.

The European places were filled by Nice, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux, and after a dramatic last matchday, Lorient, Nancy and Bastia were relegated. They will be replaced by Strasbourg, Amiens and Troyes. Amiens had a pretty amazing finish to their final match, scoring a 96th minute winner to go up: https://streamable.com/h13ha

Serie A:

Juve won their sixth Scudetto in a row, although it was a bit closer between them and rivals Roma and Napoli this time around. The EL spots are filled by Atalanta, Lazio and Milan, while Inter missed out in 7th after gaining only 8 points in their last ten league matches. Can Juventus extend their streak to seven in a row? Will Buffon get another shot at the Champions League? We will find out

Scottish Premier League:

At the start of the season, Celtic actually had longer odds (3/10) than PSG to win the league. But they did. How? Undefeated, for the first time in 118 years (where there were only 18 league matches, not 38). In 38 games, they only dropped a total of 8 points, 2-2 against Inverness in September, 1-1 against Rangers in March, and two more draws in April. All other games were won, including Cup and League Cup matches, combining to a domestic treble for the ages. 106-25 goals in the league, 17-2 in the FA Cup, and 11-0 in the League Cup.

Eredivisie:

Bookies expected this to be a close encounter between Ajax and PSV, but in the end it was Feyenoord who won their first league title since 1999. Dirk Kuyt scored a hattrick in the final match to secure the title and retired afterwards. Good on him. Ajax came in second in both th Eredivisie and Europa League.

DER MARKT (Bet365)

Bundesliga: Bayern 1.14, Dortmund 8, Leipzig 21, Leverkusen/Gladbach/Schalke 67
La Liga: Real 1.91, Barca 1.91, Atletico 34
Ligue 1: PSG 1.5, Monaco 5, Marseille 17, Lyon 21, Nice 67, Bordeaux 81
Serie A: Juventus 1.57, Napoli 7, Roma/Inter 9, Milan 11, Lazio 51, Fiorentina 81
Scottish Premier League: Celtic 1.06 (1.17@Ladbrokes), Rangers 10, Aberdeen 21

Re: European Football 2017-18

I also tried to troll and used last season's thread picture for Bayern and Juve, then noticed Dante in the picture, who wasn't even part of the 2015-16 squad, so sixfour might have done the same last year

In.

Bayern + Juve + PSG + Celtic

Tough between Barca or Real, going to go for the former due to not winning it this year.

Notable change in Serie A - top 4 teams will make 2018-19 CL, rather than top 3 as in the past seasons.

Heh, two games where I've visited both team's grounds (although Luneberg have since moved)

In, hoping for the TV gods to allow me to complete the Bundesliga in two trips (still needing SGE, Hoppenheim, Golfsburg, Freiburg and Markranstadt)

Re: European Football 2017-18

Didn't have most pösts in last year's thread.

RITS bested me by 6.

Even if I had won, though, I used to have ~double the pösts of whoever was in 2nd place. I need to get back to form ASAP.

Messi is a convicted criminal, I highly doubt Ronaldo gets convicted like that thief did.
