Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Bentdner gets fined €100k and suspended for one game for exposing his boxers which had Paddy Power on them
Another great example of how UEFA and FIFA have their priorities straight;
UEFA fines: £45,000 Spain 2004 (racism); £16,500 Serbia 2007 (racism); £10,000 Croatia 2008 (racism). €100,000 Bendtner (exposing pants).

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Im guessing if he had a black guy on his boxers and the "N" word beside it, he might have gotten off with a lighter punishment.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Sorry for an obvious post, but:
Probably <1% have noticed that showing of "Paddy Power" during the game. Thanks to the ridiculous fine+suspension, more people will hear about it, A+ strategy by UEFA.

Reason: I wonder what PaddyPower paid for that, tho

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
well they have to fine that much, i mean they have to fine him more than he got for the advertisement.
if it would be profitable he just keeps doing it.
while racism is always a (financial) net negative for the offender, no matter what punishment.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Unless Paddy agreed to pay the fine as part of the deal? I mean, they must have got more than a hundred grand's worth of marketing out of this

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
that just changes the perspective, then they have to fine as much as paddy power doesnt get enough marketing out of it anymore. 100.000 seems like a fine line to me.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Then they should fine associations enough to make them do something about racism amongst their fans, no?

yup, the fine is okay. The suspended game I could have done without though.

Reason: They should double the fine for him being a ****ing retard. Such a lack of class.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
Im sorry but if you are taking this sort of action against this (perfectly OK since they are following guidelines) then you need to sort your act out when it comes to serious incidents.
ie; Racism/Rioting
Time to start banning countries/deducting points IMO, fines and threats just ain't gonna get it done.

Maybe they should punish racism harder, but that's a completely separate issue. The reason this fine is so big is because otherwise people would make money off of breaking the rules. Racist chants arent earning anybody money.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)
I def think you are in the UEFA/FIFA camp when it comes to racism.
"Maybe they should punish racism harder"
Yeah, it's just a maybe.
--
Edit: Sorry for coming across as a dick in that post, Im just getting fed up with it all tbh, it's about time someone at UEFA/FIFA grew a set of balls and did something about it rather than just hand out petty fines and generally sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away.
These incidents are being caught on camera which makes it all the more baffling and it isn't an isolated incident.

That's fine, but it doesnt really have anything to do with the Bendtner case and bringing it up when talking about him is unnecessarily obscuring the fact the he deserved everything he got.
