I know where you're coming from and I never understood why it is even allowed. It kind of gives the "small" football nations a way to have a chance I guess though.

On the other hand when England had their run with Swedes and italians I just had to LOL. Motherland of football hiring a Swede to coach the NT just doesn't seem right.

I'm completely with you.

I think in most cases though the manager knows that they aren't going to get to a win a major tournament.

Haven't all major tournaments been won with managers from the winning nation?

I agree to an extent and major nations doing it seems strange but I come from a "small" nation and we have Zico managing us. I'm quite happy about it and we have an outside chance of making the World Cup in 2014 which would be a huge achievement.

PortuLOL came close in 2004 with Luiz Felipe Scolari (BRA). They lost in the final though to Greece with...

... "König" Otto Rehagel - "Ze" (GER) ldo

“Before the *tournament, I said organisation in defence was key but, against the Swedes, England showed how threatening they are up front, every other team at the Euros will have taken note and nobody will fancy playing us.

“With Wayne Rooney at last *available now for the match against Ukraine, there’s no way he can be left out. I’d play him alongside Danny Welbeck, who gives England good movement.

“The pair have developed a great understanding at Manchester United and we could reap the rewards of that. Wayne is raring to go, so I’m backing him to score.

“With the added threat of Andy Carroll off the bench, England have a scary looking attack. Steven Gerrard has had two very good games at the Euros and his cross for Carroll showed what pin-point accuracy he possesses.

Frankly, I wouldn’t swap England’s front six for any at this tournament – including Spain’s.

“We will beat Ukraine. They’ll have their home fans roaring and Andriy Shevchenko will be determined to have a glorious swansong, but I’m not impressed.

“They were lucky to win their first match and France exposed their defensive weaknesses.

“The hosts need a win whereas we only need a draw. They’ll go for it, that will leave them exposed and Theo Walcott and Ashley Young could terrorise them on the break.

“Andriy Pyatov looks dodgy in goal and if we’re as rampant as we were against Sweden, then we could be ahead at half-time and full-time.”

He's must be getting paid to say that in some way or another. There's not a chance he actually thinks that.

Re: Euro 2012 thread (Starts June 8th)

Portugal are the favorites as long as they create chances (and finish them) like they did against the nederlands

Favorites to win the Euros? No way. They can't create chances like they did against Netherlands, because other teams actually have a defense.

This.

It will be Spain or Germany, with Italy as an outsider if they make it through today.

Portugal are third most likely time to win right now imo but that will change if France and Italy qualify. Possibly even if England qualify!

Don't agree with the hate and abuse he got. But he still used Northern Ireland at Youth Level for personal gains basically to make himself more known so that he could eventually play for ROI

How did he use Northern Ireland youth level for personal gains? Most of the youth players rep N.I at youth level because it's not realistic for them to travel down south for matches/trainings for ROI.

The math is obv skewed in Portugal and Germany's favor, due to them already being qualified. You shouldn't underestimate the extra days of rest they get though.
