nope

I mean we have a non-zero chance of beating a non-vintage Italian lineup through balotelli red card equity, but even then we get dicked by ze germans in the semi

Reading comprehension? I said Pirlo (who is a better overall player, but I didn't rank them) is better at the things they do best at (vision and passing, especially long ones). Gerrard is better defensively, faster, stronger, and has a stronger leg for long free kicks.

Please tell me what is inaccurate about that.

LOL England.

It's hard to believe you guys invented the game.
Only a matter of time before USA and Mexico overtake you guys in the world rankings.

LOL England.
Every team left in has a chance to win the tournament, lol at you thinking otherwise.

Where are you from hater?

Re: Euro 2012 QF #4: England vs Italy

Want an England-Germany semi... that would be a really nice achievement for the English. One that I wasn't expecting them to do in the beginning of the tournament. (I was fairly confident they would make it through the quarters)
So go INGERLAAAAAND!

I was thinking. and I want to know if im dead wrong on this or if im correct on this statement.

You need Creativity in the Midfield. and by creativity I mean someone that can make plays. I honestly feel one of your IM should be a straight up playmaker. Prilo is a straight up playmaker. Messi, Forlan and almost half of SPN team are playmakers.

I do not see a single playmaker on England. I don;t see any creativity in Englands Midfield. absolutely none. and honestly, I can't remember the last time England actually had a creative MF and had a playmaker on their roster. I thin it has costed them the past 8 or so years. WC 98 was prolly their best team in the past 15 years imo. They were as good as Brazil and Fance imo. Not having a playmaker has been detrimental to England
Depends how wide your definition of playmaker is I suppose. Without checking the stats I would guess that Beckham and Gerrard have provided most assists since '98, they might not be considered traditional playmakers but they have been filling that role. Scholes too although he was under-utilised. I don't think this has been the main cause of England's failings in that period either, it's more down to failure to perform on the day, bad tactics and team selection, plus the odd bit of bad luck.

I'm interested to see how Pirlo does, obv he's quality and I understand he's having somewhat of a resurgence (don't watch much Serie A) but I think he can be got at if closed down quickly in possession.

I read it wrong. Your second sentence seems worded at first that Gerard is better than pirlo when it comes to the things you outlined. Considering your terrible post about England being on the same level as Germany and Spain, I don't think it's that far of a stretch to have read your post as saying that Stevie-me is better than pirlo.

I said England was closer to Germany than Italy was to England (not equal to Germany). I feel that Spain is on another level entirely

Re: Euro 2012 QF #4: England vs Italy

Italy and England are pretty even IMO and Germany looks much better than both.

On another note, I think they screwed up the schedule of the semis. Portugal and Germany will have 2 days rest on their opponents. Spain/France should have been today, then Germany tomorrow. Right?

That's what happens when u revolve around a 4-4-2/'hit n hope' style that England have forever. That type of player doesn't fit into this style. Someone already said how Scholes was underutilized internationally, and it's not a coincidence.

Put another way, it'd be like asking why Spain doesn't produce more big target men, or destroyer-type midfielders.

Re: Euro 2012 QF #4: England vs Italy

We produce technically sub-par footballers because the coaching and general system for teaching/training young footballers is poor in this country. That is why we play too much long ball and can't retain the thing. Not the other way around.
