I saw Dermontti Dawson.

Johnny Unitas being on the list is incredibly disappointing. Though I have no idea how much money he made in his career. It was probably one of Owens' game checks.

I think all 30 for 30 segments should somehow be centered around things that could include Bernie Kosar. We had 'The U', 'Broke'... they could start with athletes with daughters in porn, or sidearm-throwing QB's.

Mashburn is part of a group that owns like 70 papa johns/outback steakhouses + dealerships

I could be missing some major details(and we all would be if we tried to argue it) but the concept that Jamal Mashburn didn't burn his money because he invested in a bunch of Papa Johns/Outbacks seems pretty lol in itself.

Tons of athletes buy restaurants and still go dead ass broke. He could easily have lots of money now by pure luck.

They specifically pointed out restaurants as a risky investment earlier. Not as sexy to have someone on who threw most of his money in a bunch of diversified index funds to pretty much ensure he'd never go broke.

This is true. With restaurants, it really matters how the company is managed. Well run franchises can make money. Starting a restaurant from scratch is much tougher. Additionally, they are normally investing with people who have little idea in how to run a restaurant. If you know what you are doing, you can do well. If you are similar to who the ballers are investing with, you are bound to go broke.

Of course the issue with this is that who the frack really knows who knows how to run restaurants and who doesn't? Lots of these guys lost tons of money because they used a financial advisor who supposedly knew how to handle money...but didn't...who says the group of dudes running Wendy's in their home town really knows what the hell they are doing?

Was it Vince Young who took out a 2 million dollar lockout loan @ 20% when they didn't miss any game checks?

I would think a guy who have never owned a store and thinks its a great idea would be a horrible owner. I would think a guy who owns 10+, and all are profitable would know. I have NO idea how Mash got involved in Restaurants. But if he originated the idea, I guess he was smart or lucky. If he partnered with "smart" business people--I'll assume he's at least a little smart. I understand how risky and volatile the restaurant market is. I'll assume at this point, Mash should be fine. He definitely could be lucky.

Most of these guys get involved with crooks or scam artists.

I missed this. I'll have to find a future showing to record.

Was Schilling involved? It sounded like he was based on the podcast. Wouldn't mind hearing from that tool. However, living on the RI border, it got pretty old listening to lol broke gubmint folk trying to act innocent, when the loan to lure his company to RI was one of the most ******ed gov't investments of all time.

re: carwashes

There was a family in the town I grew up in who owned nothing but pay phones and self serve car washes. This was 2000ish, so it was kind of the beginning of the end for pay phones but they were absolutely banking the last time I talked to the kid(who was my age).

For his 18th birthday his Dad bought a self serve carwash in an awesome location right in the middle of the city and let his son own/manage it for his own. mbfn.

not exactly what i expected, but still good. Andre Rison was awesome...Bart Scott brought the truth. Mashburn probably did get involved with the right guys while also being pretty intelligent so a combination of luck plus smarts...but id think having that espn analyst job pays pretty well too.
