But I have to admit they were interesting and I was a bit of a fan as a kid, as were lots of people I knew, which kinda puts a hole in the "America hated Miami football cause they were black" theory imo.
It could also have something to do with them being the first team composed of 5 freshmen starters to make it to the national championship game.
*In an era when freshmen didn't automatically start, weren't typically the best players in college basketball, and often times rode the pine for a year or two before they saw consistent minutes.
