Or ESPN could just keep making them cause, ya know, most have been awesome.

From the Simmons podcast it sounded like they will continue with the style and the goal of the films, but it wouldn't be called 30/30. Even though it would be pretty much the same stuff.

Expanding 'ESPN Films' brand, yada yada yada.

That's good. In what I imagine is everyone's opinion, ESPN should stick to just airing these and not trying to change the formula of having them produced from outside.

It amazes me how blatant the SMU stuff was and how much is known now and how much the cheaters feel like they can talk about it now. Every one of these cheaters seem smug and happy about the whole affair. ****ing big12 football.
And the contemporary media shows old clips of them saying they didn't know what was going on.

This was the first of these I watched. Had always heard SMU's cheating included ref bribing. Old wives tale?

Also, to kwibble; they could have shown more highlights from that Houston 95 point game their first year back.

my guess is that four days in october, tim richmond, and once brothers, the three that were produced by MLB, NASCAR, and the NBA respectively, were replacing three others. i remember reading someone itt complaining about the fact that these were from the leagues.

thx, I didn't know that about Once Brothers. I would have thought it was a young director with one camera.

Sounds like old school OTL shows, which were usually awesome. ESPN reverting to old form would be a welcome change. Maybe they are realizing we want stories instead of clownshoes broadcasters? One can dream.

This was the first one of these I've watched in full and I thought it was excellent.

Thoughts on the production:
-I wished they had touched a little more on the day to day lives of the players. They mentioned dudes were driving Trans Ams and 230z's around campus but it would have been cool to hear reactions from other student's at the time for example. Were these guys even pretending to go to class, were they wearing obscene chains, did they have ridic apartments etc. Not a huge deal tho.

Re: SMU

It was pretty incredible for the boosters and former players to be sitting there laughing about the whole thing. And then to be indignant and pissed that the school didn't want them hanging around the program. In one portion of the interview Dickerson is talking about all the money he got, etc, then in the next he's saying he doesn't understand why the school didn't want all those players around. Really bro?

I have to say in that regard tho it was surprising that all those guys really wanted to come back and be around the program, which I guess I didn't expect from guys who had to be paid to go there.

I'm excited to go back and catch up on more of these.

Meh, I think there's probably a feeling of "Hey, you knew about this (in some cases ordered it), so we're all in this together. We've done our time, let's win games".

At some point, when the cheating is so institutionalized, it's just a culture. No particular drop wants to think they're responsible for the flood.

Yeah, and you could *kinda* understand their flawed points that the players 'deserved' a piece, esp being from poor backgrounds, and that weaker argument that SMU was prob going to suck as program anyway so its not like they're the ones that killed it.

Another funny part was that interview where the AD, the coach, and the AD's #2 were blindsided by the letter the guy wrote to pay the player. So LOL.

Scenes like that, and the gold ****ing Trans Am really made me question when they were like 'these guys were paying players in methods you couldn't even dream of!'

Yeah, I don't get it. If I'm an AD and I'm paying players, its:

1) Always cash
2) Always in unmarked envelopes
3) Always delivered by one guy I can trust (and it's only one body to bury if **** goes south)

That seems like common sense to me.

Problem is they aren't siphoning off money from the general fund, it's the boosters who are providing the funding. You need all the boosters in the know because that's the only way to get the cash

Granted, it's a dirty business, but I worry less about boosters pooching the whole deal (more to lose, etc.).

Why, so Bush et al isn't clamoring to go back to visit Southern Cal?

just saw it again. I do not like the closeups in an era of huge tvs, not that I own one. But I really don't see the need to count a man's nose hairs when he's giving a football soundbyte.

Its not 30 for 30, but ESPN films is doing a Fab Five movie that airs on March 13 I think.

I remember being 12 and watching as many Michigan games as I can, a awesome game against a Jamaal Mashburn lead Kentucky team in the tourny, a lot of battles against Calbert Chaney and Indiana and almost crying when Webber called that timeout in the championship.

They were so influential in many ways but personally I was 12 year old kid in Oregon and they became my team and still are to this day.

Cant wait to see this if its done half as well as 30 for 30.

Didn't see Bartman one yet. Saw this one because Jalen Rose is suppose to be on SportsNation soon about it. Maybe for the Bartman one they will have Dan Patrick do a phone interview with him on Sports Center.

Sad story how the war separated two best friends and one of the best if not the best European basketball players of all time Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic. The end made me

It's a shame that this team didnt play against 1992 Dream Team. They would have probably lost but it would have been an epic game.
