I think people still wouldn't know where Irwindale was if it wasn't for the Raiders saying they were gonna move there.

I can see how some people didn't like this one or thought it was boring but I thought it was entertaining enough. It probably helps that I'm a huge Ice Cube fan and I was growing up out here in So Cal during the time the piece covered. The whole Raider gear thing was a crazy phenomenon out here though.

Ok, a couple more movies premiere in the next two weeks.

1) June 17, 1994 by Brett Morgen
Quote:
Do you remember where you were on June 17, 1994? Thanks to a wide array of unrelated, coast-to-coast occurrences, this Friday has come to be known for its firsts, lasts, triumphs and tragedy. Arnold Palmer played his last round at a U.S. Open, in Oakmont, Pa., the FIFA World Cup kicked off in Chicago, the Rangers celebrated on Broadway, Patrick Ewing desperately pursued a long evasive championship in the Garden and Donald Fehr stared down the baseball owners. And yet, all of that was a prelude to O.J. Simpson leading America on a slow speed chase in a white Ford Bronco around Los Angeles. Oscar-nominated and Peabody Award-winning director Brett Morgen will artistically weave these moments and others to create a unique and reflective look at a day that no sports fan could forget.
Wednesday, June 16 @ 10pm Eastern on ESPN

2) The Two Escobars by Jeff and Michael Zimbalist
Quote:
While rival drug cartels warred in the streets and the country’s murder rate climbed to highest in the world, the Colombian national soccer team set out to blaze a new image for their country. What followed was a mysteriously rapid rise to glory, as the team catapulted out of decades of obscurity to become one of the best teams in the world. Central to this success were two men named Escobar: Andrés, the captain and poster child of the National Team, and Pablo, the infamous drug baron who pioneered the phenomenon known in the underworld as “Narco-soccer.” But just when Colombia was expected to win the 1994 World Cup and transform its international image, the shocking murder of Andres Escobar dashed the hopes of a nation.

Through the glory and the tragedy, The Two Escobars daringly investigates the secret marriage of crime and sport, and uncovers the surprising connections between the murders of Andres and Pablo.

There would be no point in dubbing a documentary like this, imo.

Here's an excerpt from the 30 for 30 website.

Didn't the first one of these air like over a year ago? Isn't it more like 30 for 31 at this point. I just don't get why they didn't air a new one every Thurs night or something. Anyways, I've lost interest. The only one I was dying to see was the Steve Bartman one and I've given up on them showing that in my lifetime. That or I missed it, but who can keep up with it. The schedule for this like most things ESPN related is ******ed.

this was some of the worst **** to ever air on TV.

The Ricky Williams one. Worst movie ever. The Reggie Miller bull**** one. Who the hell cares : its Reggie Miller. The Guru of Go : Thought it would be good, as the Loyola team was ****ing unreal - but it ends with the Phoenix Mercury winning a WNBA title - what the ****.

Overall there is a reason the films were low budget.

Lol I've been a little disappointed in these too. Iverson was awful. "The U" did not need to be 2 repetitive hours of "we're bad/awesome and ran bad in every game we lost". Ricky W. was boring.

Maybe this one will be ok. I remember watching the Rockets-Knicks and OJ split-screen but forgot all that other stuff was going on too.

Listening to the Bill Simmons podcast with the director and he says there was like a complete bench-clearing brawl that night in Game (5?) but they had cut away to the OJ stuff so no one ever saw it.

Director wanted to include it in tonight's film but NBA Films wouldn't release the footage.

In spite of my brevity up thread, this was hands down the best of the series so far. So well done, even in its simplicity. Loved the editor's feed of Costas et al trying to figure out what to do. And if you need any more proof that we are all a bunch of lemmings, I present you the idiots who ran to watch the OJ car chase live in person.

Who was the M's commentator with that really dumb joke about OJ?
