With baseball and hockey you have lots of people not going to college and playing in the minor leagues. Maybe it will be different if basketball and football get more international players. You already see some basketball players playing in Europe instead of going to college.
Yeah, the NHL has the best options for brining in players from other leagues. They have the widest international net of all the major sports in the States

Tonight should be the best one yet

One and Not Done is about John Calipari and his college basketball coaching career.

Re: ESPN Films / 30 for 30 Documentary Series

I know I said this itt before, but I have video now. I wish they had covered the 3-homer game in the Bo documentary. Bo homered in his first 3 ABs. The third he basically just flicked the ball out over the short porch in Yankee's stadium.

Then he injured himself diving for a Deion Sanders line drive that no one else could have even dreamed of making a play on.

One of the craziest plays at the plate you will ever see.

Could Bo have hit 4 or 5 that day? Who knows but you have to think if anyone could ever hit 5 it would be him. That game was a perfect microcosm for his career. So frustrating.

Saw they are doing a 2 parter on Celts/Lakers in the 80's during NBA finals week

There have already been books written and docs about Magic/Bird, not sure what else you could say there.

Agreed. What makes the 30 for 30's so good are topics or stories we have either never heard about or are folk lore. I still think the Two Escobars was the best one.

The original point of the 30f30 was to show the relationship between the sports and the culture of the time. You can't discuss 80s pop culture and not mention Larry-Magic even if it has been done 1000 times.

Agree. The Escobar one and the 1980 Winter Olympics hockey one Of Men and Miracles, from the Soviet perspective, were the best ones, IMO..so well done..

Yep. Two Escobars so incredibly elite. The Drazen Petrovic/Vlade Divac/Yugoslvia split a clear but distant 2nd

do you need to like soccer to REALLY appreciate the escobar one? Or is the storyline just that good?

I don't care about soccer and agree that, prior to OJ: Made in America, the Two Escobars was easily the best 30 for 30.

OJ: MiA is easily the best now though imo.

That was my fave. I also liked the BC point shaving scandal one but that's mostly because I'm interested in learning about the mafia. So I'm pretty biased there.

I was at that WC group stage game vs USA at the Rose Bowl when Escobar scored the own goal. I remember he was murdered before the tournament even finished, during the knockout stages.

I'm 10 minutes into the Lakers / Celtics Pt. 1 and am entertained. I didn't know the history in the 60s.

Just rewatched June 17, 1994. Still amazing the way he crafts the narrative out of stock cottage from the time

Yeah, the Lakers vs Celtics one was really well done. They wove the history and racial aspects together well to give it good depth.

Not sure I can think of anyone who comes off more full of himself than Magic.

Isiah Thomas was and I assume still is every bit as full of himself and obviously had a fraction of the talent.

The Celtics Lakers one is worth it just to be reminded how insane of a bball player Larry Bird was.
