It was kinda cool for me seeing what guys like Joe Beningo and Steve Somers actually looked like after listening to them many times. Beningo has been great since he started on their overnights back in the 90s. Other then that it was pretty meh.

That said, I knew almost everything in the program. So it was fun nostalgia for me. But if you didn't know about it, or never listened I could see it being kind of dry. They could've used another 30 minutes to discuss more of the impact on the industry and their fights. Both felt a little glossed over. Also, the interviews with guys like me could've been further developed. Both guys talk about the father-son bonding impact they've had a lot, but it was never really mentioned here.
Just saw it the other day and agree with the this and the general sentiment that if this came out in 2007 instead of 2017 it wouldn't be as meh as it is now to the avg. person who never heard of them. As you pointed out I think as well lack of substance of what their impact was in the industry through the years really hurt this documentary in what could've been a really good spot felt just meh in the end.

The biggest thing they have going against them is that sports talk radio is universally horrible and a pox on humanity. So that's tough to overcome and make a compelling story out of.

+1

how mentally tortured would you be if you were one of those players that did time and 8 of your teammates played in the NFL.

I can't even imagine. I probably would have been suicidal.

Spoiler:
It's really amazing that all of those guys seem to have landed on their feet after that realization in addition to the years they spent in prison.

I'm somehow just now watching Pony Excess from season 1. I really really want to know what they gave Dickerson to go to SMU. No one is saying but they're being really tantalizing about how clever it was. Anyone ever read any rumors?

finally got around to watching the George Best one, was ok. found it helpful because i didn't know all that much about him really. would have liked if it dug into what his actual issues that drove him to alcoholism were though. perhaps nobody knew, but i'm guessing his ex-wives who were heavily featured could have shed some light on it. the 2nd half of it was fairly weak with repetitive "and then he stopped drinking / moved to club [x] / started drinking again / repeat" facts with little insight.

and his post-United career was fairly hilarious:

bit off topic but i've seen some great SCFeatured episodes lately. particularly the Austin Hatch Michigan Bball player one

also the Mark Bingham feature, a gay rugby player who was one of the 4 people to storm the cockpit of Flight 93 ( http://broadband.espn.go.com/video/clip?id=17403649 )

I forgot to mention this one as well. I got caught up on the last 3 I missed over the weekend. Year of the scab was really good. I learned a lot from that one.

yes the scab one was entertaining. I remember the scab games but I did not remember the story behind washington vs. dallas in the final game. that tale was tailor-made for a movie.
