Re: ESPN calls Kidd to Mavericks "Imminent"
you guys are totally ignoring what kind of players they are...DH does not get dirk open jumpshots. All of his strengths, the mavs already have.
I remember dirk drilling 15 footers all day long with nash, and i expect that will be the same with kidd.
again, not a *good* trade, but jason kidd fits better on the mavs right now than DH.

Re: ESPN calls Kidd to Mavericks "Imminent"
This and the Shaq trade are making the media look like absolute idiots. "The West keeps getting stronger ZOMG" is not the storyline here.

If you mean by the fact that everyone says its a bad trade, and you say its a good trade, then yea it definitely is going down the same path.

Fun fact: Dirk was better without Nash than with him.

yeah b/c he got better at basketball.
nash = dirk gets as many open shots as he wants
w/o nash = dirk has to get his own open shots, figure out when to pass out of double teams, when to drive, when to post up, when to shoot, when to shoot 3s....and so on.
in other words he thinks too much, and it is quite evident in his game.
the floor will be opened and the mavs will have a much more free flowing offense with kidd.*
*(again not a good trade still)

Re: ESPN calls Kidd to Mavericks "Imminent"
caps,
I somewhat agree with your point about Kidd being a better "fit". Not totally, because their offense does run a lot better with Harris, but from a subjective stance I can see it. Had this deal gone down last season (which obv wouldn't with the way they were playing, but let's just act like they were in the position they're in now), I'd still say they overpaid, but I wouldn't hate it, thought I'd want them to still hold onto Diop.
The reason being, Kidd was awesome last season, and had been for some time. He was showing no signs of slowing down. Now, for the first time, Kidd is finally starting to show his age. His defense has declined a great deal. More importantly, his already weak shooting percentages have just plummeted. His TS% is down over 30%. And most importantly, his turnovers have skyrocketed. He's up a whole TO per game. The fact of the matter is, he just isn't the same player.
But maybe Dallas's award winning medical staff will rejuvenate him and he'll play MVP caliber PG for the remainder of the season.

Re: ESPN calls Kidd to Mavericks "Imminent"
Basically what the Mavs 'braintrust' is saying is that Kidd makes them a better basketball team for the next 2-3 years than Devin Harris would for the next 5 or so. Giving up Diop right now hurts, the others they can do without. They'll get Stack back in 30 days. The first round picks hurt. Mavs are also getting Antoine Wright for a 2nd rounder in separate deal.
NICK FAZEKAS will be coming back to the team now, watch out!!! haha.

Clearly a good deal for NJ, IMO, but smells like desperation by Dallas. Amazing how much cheaper Gasol was than Shaq or Kidd.
|
The Gasol deal was a steal not a trade imo (hyperbole ldo) and really doesn't have anything to do w/ anything that has gone on (Shaq trade) or will go on in the next few days--until trade deadline.

Kidd is not Nash, he doesn't "open the court", he's a fantastic decision maker on the fast break but he's not the kind of guy that constantly forces the defense to rotate and adjust to him. On a 5v5 situation Kidd is not going to create wide open jumpshots for Dirk.

Re: ESPN calls Kidd to Mavericks "Imminent"
BASKETBALL STATS
Devin Harris's PER Is more than 2.5 that of Jason Kidd's.
John Hollinger had Devin Harris rated over Rajon Rondo in terms of defensive point guards last year. Rondo was #2.
LIFE STATS
Devin Harris is 24. Jason Kidd is 35.
Dallas also picked Devin Harris way too early in that draft, and gave him a ton of money over the summer. That to me shows lots of commitment and a "we wouldn't trade him for a barely above average point guard who is 35."
