You've probably covered before (and I've probably read but forgot) but why don't you get to more games? For my part, I have been attending one or two matches a season at most for the past decade, as I wasn't living in Yorkshire and I haven't been rich enough and we've been too **** to justify a special effort. I moved back to Yorkshire for the second half of the season and went to 5 matches I think. This season I expect to get to a dozen or so games, even though I resent stumping up £30+ for most fixtures. I find I'm excited like I was as a youngster going to the matches, in contrast to how I viewed it the last time I attended semi-regularly, where I felt like I was dragging myself to games and wondering why I bothered. Dunno how much the contrast has to do with the quality going up versus it becoming a novelty again after such a long hiatus.
There are lots more reasons not to go versus reasons to go IMO, just wondered what combination makes attending so rare for you?
I only ever had a full season ticket as a kid, but I shared one with my brother for the past 8 years as it was an efficient way of getting to as many matches as we could each fit into our work / family schedules.
We both agreed towards the end of last season that we wouldn't be renewing this time as the experience was simply no longer enjoyable. Being surrounded by miserable, aggressive idiots who insult and berate the players they claim to support just ground us down in the end. I've no idea why Ross Barkley in particular hasn't handed in a transfer request yet, as he gets murdered by the majority of the home fans every time he fails to beat 3 men and score a wonder goal. It's no coincidence that Everton had such rotten home form last season!
So yeah, I gave up being a loyal Everton fan because I don't like being surrounded by Everton fans.
